I'm sure the Royal British Legion does some very worthy work, but it's wrong that veterans should rely on charity to fill the role of offering support that the MoD should be responsible for.

Alongside the hypernationalism and jingoism that poppies encourage there's also the fact that they're produced using prison labour:

But of course it's not wearing a prison-made pin badge that's policed as immoral

Disappointing, I always thought it was ex service personal making them, and that was one of the points of them.

The carpet shop in town now has a window full of poppies and bullets, because nothing says 'come and buy our carpets' more than a big pile of oversized bullets.

Someone around our way has been knitting these tops for post boxes throughout the pandemic. Not poppy ones, but little village scenes, gardens, things like that. They're really impressive.

I've seen a few of them (non poppy ones) around the place too, they're actually really neat.

As much as i hate to do it, been filming in portrait for the whole youtube #shorts thing they're doing, as only those filmed in portrait are eligable. One quickie vid from the phone got picked up by the algorithm that way and registered 40k views in just 2 hours one morning.

It's true, i tried it with clips filmed in landscape and they weren't included in the scheme.
