I have a confession, all Zombie games scare the bejesus out of me (bar PvZ), EVEN Dead Rising 3. I can't put my finger on it. I did play DR3 'straight' as in I didn't dress up in mental clothes and hit zombies with dong's and stuff but the sound effects and abandoned places when alone, especially in abandoned interiors like hospitals and stuff just creeped me the f**k out.

The problem is I love all of the zombie games. The Least scary oddly enough is Left4Dead, because its always played with others and its becomes tactical more than scary, it has its moments though, if you're separated from your team mates and there's a Hunter about it can be terribly tense.

More recently, Dying Light has come to the fore, now admittedly in co-op, its easier to handle but I literally can't play it alone...one of the main missions I have is at night time and I'm all 'nope', even in co-op. It's a brilliant game and I do play it still but it really is rather terrifying.

I downloaded Zombi and the premise is great, London, Zombi's...but seriously I was terrified from the get go, London Underground, Zombies, Dark, flashlight, cricket bat, crap hand gun and a sean bean impersonator, nightmare fuel. :dread:

I may never boot it up again. :fp: My mates laugh at me for being afraid of these games but I can't help it, and I've played Outlast through to the end (not completed it yet but im at the last bit). Outlast was scary but I was glad it didnt have zombies, the noises they make, more over, the SCREAM they make when it hits night time in dying light is blood curdling.

You big Jessie!

Anyway, the answer would be no. I'm not scared by a game, or a film for that matter. I admit to being caught out by a cheap, jump scare (like the dogs smashing through the windows in Resi, or the zombie hands in the police station in Resi 2 for examples. But as a whole I don't find them scary. Tense at times (but that's mainly down to not wanting to die and having to re-start.) maybe?

I wouldn't mind trying Zombi though.

It's really good. Looks a tad ropey but for £15 it's a steal. Movies don't scare me at all, but I don't know, Zombies mayne...

Oddly jump scares in ok with generally, it's the sound effects and zombie moans in games that creep me out, like in resi 1 when you hear one before you see it.

Zombi last night I was overlooking large area with a few shuffling about, a mounted machine gun beside me but didn't want to disturb them incase they ran upstairs. :fp:

I did finish state of decay year one though, while planking myself a lot.

If done well then on a face-to-face level, yes. However the thought of playing zombie games bores the eternally-boiled piss out of me. They've reached a level of cultural saturation that they become banal.

I can think of one moment in TLOU in particular that was terrifying, so technically yes zombie games do scare me

But it didn't involve zombies

The David boss battle. Did not help that it was 4am once we reached that point

ZombiU is great (I'm playing it at the moment) and definitely ramps up the tension in parts, and throws in a few jump scares, but it's not "scary" in the usual sense.

DayZ can be incredibly tense, but again, not because of the zombies. Which are more laughable in that game.

This. I haven't ever been scared of a zombie game other than the odd jump if something has jumped out at me.

I found Zombi U quite scary, it had some really good jump scares but I think the consequences of death had the biggest impact on making the game scary. Any other zombie games? Not really.

I lose the fear factor the instant I get a weapon. Deadspace is one of my favourite games though. Dat atmosphere.

I second that emotion, Photek.

I like the idea of these games... but I get too scared when playing them. I've tried Resident Evil, Resi 4, Dead Rising, Dead Space, ZombiU and The Walking Dead but I've barely got through the first thirty minutes of any of them. They're just too intense.

I even had to stop playing The Walking Dead: Survival Instinct  .

Seriously  .

I did find Zombi quite disturbing in that I would have to bash the bejesus out of a zombi to kill it, in Dying Light it took a 10th of the time...

I'd agree with that, one of the main criticisms of Zombi U was the melee combat and how long it took to kill a Zombie using the cricket bat but I think it definitely added to the disturbing atmosphere and the tension of the game.

Zombi U definitely scared me. To this day I can't play it if I'm alone in the house.
Others, not so much.

Outside of the nursery section ZombiU isn't that scary really. But I agree in that the game design itself means that its always incredibly tense. You have to be really methodical and patient. Pick your fights, sometimes just luring one zombie to you so you don't get ganged up on. You know if you get it wrong its going to cost you. And your going to have to come back and kill yourself.

On the whole I'd say zombies have just become so common place that they don't really do anything anymore. The gooseberry fool in Dead Space though :dread: Oh and when I was younger....

:dread: :dread: :dread:

Fortunately I know how easy they are to avoid now.

Who the hell plays DeadRising straight?!

Zombie games don't scare me. I strawberry floating hate jump scares more than anything, but creepy atmosphere and monsters are fine by me. Mostly.
Freakiest part of DL had to be the mission where you go to the medicine drop, and night falls, and you're chased by the things. I didn't even look back during that bit. Just stared at the map and tried to get back to the high-rise asap :slol: Such a good game.

No, zombies are lame beyond belief. Terrible in games and films, so dull and unimaginative.

Some, I found the original Resident Evil pretty scary. It was the door loading though. I would just sit and think about what was coming next and my thoughts were always scarier than what actually did come next.

I'm a massive wimp with horror games (films less so) and tend to avoid them, the Ravenholme bit in HL2 actually caused me to stop playing it entirely and never played it again. Tried playing Project Zero once and couldn't get beyond the first 10 minutes :fp:

Oddly though Dead Rising didn't bother me at all, probably because it was just so OTT and fun to play.
