The white companion remains the only one who hasn’t had a banger of an episode centred around him.

It was certainly the strongest episode of this frankly disappointing series so far. The story was interesting and it was quite sad at the end and the monsters themselves looked cool.

The festive edition of Doctor Who will be shown on New Year's Day on BBC One instead of Christmas Day for the first time since the drama's return in 2005.

I like the idea of having a New Year episode... it's something fresh and that approach fits in with this new season.

Oh, and I made it into the thread title! :o . My first brush with fame :datass: .

They missed an opportunity to have a regeneration on a new year episode and then have the doctor look directly in to the camera and say, "..new year, new me"

Couple of articles saying season 12 is coming in 2019 but may be Chibnall's last, and they discuss whether Jodie would stay or go:

Just had an odd thought.
Is it possible for the Doctor to instantly hate a new version of himself and force an another regeneration?

Maybe he regenerates into someone who looks exactly like Hitler or something?

I don't know enough of the lore to know if it can be done of free will, but either way I assume Timelords would consider that something like self harm. If regeneration needs that 'near fatal' trigger it could presumably be triggered by inducing that intentionally but that would definitely cross a line.

Not terrible but the worst episode of this series.

Thought that was one of the best episodes of the season, along with last week. Felt like a good mystery and not overloaded nothing. Unsurprising that the best two episodes of the season weren’t written by Chibnall

I’m on Team Bork, I thought that was the best episode this season that wasn’t Earth history. Liked the droids, liked the villain, liked the fact that they didn’t spare innocents. Good stuff.

quite liked that episode, robot postmen would have fitted really well into the classic series

turning the bubble wrap into a weapon, made a certain degree of sense to me as it does seem to be irresistible to most people

episode had the potential to be good but then blew it with the whole "the systems not the problem is the people who misuse it" gooseberry fool. up until that point it was a pretty damning critique of the amazon warehousing system; like all good sci fi it was based in reality. and then they just... threw it away.

also the bit at the end where they say not to pop the bubble wrap but at the start of the episode Ryan popped some and didn't die? wtf was that?

Thinking about it, this was pretty right-wing for Doctor Who. The corporate bloke in the suit with a gun turned out to be a good guy, the villain was the young reactionary (or terrorist), and at the end the market self-corrects to provide more jobs.

Vinay Patel's only real piece of work I can find is about honour killings. Has he done much else?
