The one with the spiked German helmets and the stereotypical German commander with a scar and monocle. Oh yes

Finished the War Games

Excellent stuff. Burned through the last 5 episodes today. TIMELORDS!!
I knew that the Doctor had a forced regeneration but I wasn't sure if it was Troughton, think there may be another as well, although this is certainly one of the more traumatic regenerations. Is the other Timelord the Master or not, don't think that was clear, plus he just got shot dead so I wonder what happens to him. Enjoyed seeing the differenttimezones, even if it was just a few of them and a reused clip of Romans charging, whatever happened to Lady Jennifer though?!Who were the space baddies that were doing all this?

Looking forward to Pertwee on Earth :datass: Saw some of these as a kid, but I don't really remember much about them.

He isn't. And he just dies. This is before they had really created the rules we know now. But some novels have had him return in a new regeneration.
Hyperion wrote:whatever happened to Lady Jennifer though?!

Time Lords returned her and everyone else to the correct times.
Hyperion wrote:Who were the space baddies that were doing all this?

They are called War Lords. So yes, the War Lord is the Lord of the War Lords.

...bad. REAL bad :shifty: . I've been totally out of the Club for the past few weeks.

But I'm taking action - right now. I'm going to start story 6, The Mind Robbers, by watching the first episode whilst I'm having lunch.

Just watched story 6, The Mind Robber, episode 1.

Very quickly, we’re ”outside of time and space as we know it”!

A terrific, spooky start to this story. Oh, and Zoe :datass: .

Just watched story 6, The Mind Robber, episode 2.

Zoe opens the squeakiest door in existence  .

The sound of the robot searcher’s footsteps were quite eerie. And then the riddling kids arrived... really rather unsettling.

The scariest-looking unicorn ever runs in! Aaaaaaaargh!

Finished Spearhead from Space yesterday.
Very good. Are they the same things that are in one of Eccleston's first ones?
They're not afraid to just kill random members of the public in these are they!
Felt it suddenly came to a head in the final episode and a lot was crammed into it which could have been spread out over earlier episodes where not much happens or split into later episodes.
Pertwee though :datass:

I'm on episode five of the daemons. I'm enjoying it so far though some of the technical limitations and budget constraints are highlighted by the move to colour.

It still amazes me how much violence there is.

I also watched the edge of destruction this week. It's a short one and it's a bit over the top at points but had some nice moments.

I particularly liked the end and the doctor had a nice moment with Barbara.

It's good to have finally watched the beginnings boxset but sad that Marco Polo is lost.

It has a 30 minutes condensed version of the Marco
Polo story with pictures and the audio but unfortunately I couldn't get into. Might go back to it later.

Yes. And then plastic Rory etc. See facts on the previous page.

Assuming your referring to what I think you are then the technique used only came in after the switch to colour.

Some guff about The Dæmons

Barry Letts, the then producer, was interested in writing a story about black magic. Mainly to scare the gooseberry fool out of kids I suspect. Working with the rest of the team they moved it more towards science fiction rather then fantasy but this is still one of the more blatant attempts to more away from just sci-fi. This helped opened the door for a variety of "magic" stories over the years. Perhaps the most noticeable in New Who being The Impossible Planet/The Satan Pit, where another massive horned beast appeared. Azal could also perhaps be consider an elder god type, allowing the show to bring in some more obvious Lovecraftian cosmic horror.
The dig was broadcast on BBC3 but at the time there was no such thing as BBC3. BBC3 wouldn't launch until 2003!
The Master uses an incantation to summon the Dæmon. This is actually "Mary had a little lamb" spoken backwards. As well as this on the collar of the Master's robe is the 16th century occult alphabet called Theban. This natural spells out "Master".
The shot of the exploding helicopter is actually an unused shot from a James Bond film and the BBC received complaints when the model of the church was blown up in the final episode as they were convinced it was real and that the BBC had actually blown up a church.
This marked the end of a season long cat and mouse game between the Doctor and the Master with UNIT finally catching him. But of course the Master would one day return!
