Feels like something that worked fine in the script but when it came to then capturing it the director made them look dreadful. Didn't mind the EMP bit, it could have been better set up but then ANYTHING would have been better then the Call of Duty bit. Well maybe not magic reformatting phones. So bad. First off, Ryan is a better shot then the specially designed and trained robots despite his only training being CoD and suffering from dyspraxia. Secondly it seemed really out of character to. I know we have not known him for long but he didn't seem to be so stupidly reckless before. It was just weird. And crap.

Besides it was clearly more Destiny then CoD.

Yeah, I enjoyed it for the most part, ddecent episode.

New TARDIS is meh though. The CoD bit was shite.

Other than the out of place CoD bit, I really enjoyed that.

Ryan was a bit of an idiot in this one, Graham is the best companion of the three so far for me.

Ryan was an idiot and Yaz has no reason to exist so far.

Didn’t think much of 13’s shouting at pilot at start. Overall I think kids etc will have loved it - but it was lightweight. Competent but ultimately forgettable

Both have suffered from unclear/plots threats with lots of running/shouting to make it clear exciting stuff is happening (and occasional Doctor-speeches)

Feels like a teenage version of Sarah Jane Adventures - but I miss it having a decent sco fi story.

It was some of the weirdest directing I've seen. The cuts were erratic and all over the place, the pacing was off. It was like they intended to cut in 3 seconds earlier but had time constraints and just got an algorithm to snip 3 seconds off of scenes where it felt it was right to do so.

The story itself could have been really good but the character dialogue was poor and the suspense of the story was lost somewhere in the third quarter.

Overall pretty naff.

The sonic creation montage in episode 1 looked like it was cut strangely to me, and the face close-ups in episode 2 were beginning to distract me.

I don't mind Ryan being a bit of an idiot. His vulnerability makes him interesting. But I really agree about Yaz, last week I thought she was just tacked onto things and bar the we used to know each other in school thing she could have been an extra. Heck it doesn't even seem like they really knew each other in school anyway. Future ep spoilers- ep 4 seems to be focused on her family and might even have an old monster returning

The thing I found most distracting was a real pet hate of mine (something I had to get use to again when seeing Torchwood on Twitch) and thats unnecessary shaky shots when people are just talking. :dread: Fortunately that was just contained to the first part of the ep.

The main reason I really liked about the story was that it felt like an adventure the original crew would go on. Only back then it would have been an ep for just about every hazard. 8-) It was very Keys of Marinus but without actually being the Keys of Marinus.

Anyone else think the way 13 talks sounds a bit like a primary school teacher?

An improvement over last weeks episode but still a bit meh.
Bradley Walsh is the best thing about the series for me, certainly the best companion out of the three, Ryan is alright, but Yaz continues to be just there with no fleshing out to her character whatsoever. Slowly warming to Jodie but again this didn't feel like a traditional Doctor Who episode, hopefully next week will improve.

Also flying material as a monster, Really?

I was saying to the missus that the best person in the new cast is Bradley Walsh. I like him.

Bradley Walsh has been decent, but it’ll all go wrong when they get to the planet Fannychmelar

I just watched the second episode.

Well... it was better than the first one. I liked some aspects of it; the desolate planet looked neat, some effects were quite nice and it was cool when the TARDIS appeared. But, dear-oh-dear, the baddie(s) were incredibly weak; so unmemorable. When those robot things were shooting lasers and the team were running away... that was a bit silly.

It may be me, but it feels like the series is targeting a much younger audience, too, with that Call of Duty moment just terrible. I am a little surprised that the new series has opened with two pretty dull storylines; they're not really ones that would make me think "dang! I gotta buy this on disc!" like I have with the previous series.

But... I still believe that there is potential here. I think I like the new Doctor... and the idea of the supporting team... but it's gonna have to step up pretty quickly and find its stride.

I chuckled at the Call of Duty bit :shifty: If just for his shrill "WHERE'S THE RELOAD" when it all went wrong

I enjoyed that more than the first episode. Not sure I like the idea of the Tim Shaw (wtf) guys getting a bigger role, though. They didn't exactly look memorable.

Tim Shaw would have been better if he never removed his helmet...

Graham is my favourite, and yaz seems pointless just seems there to tick boxes.

I don't care what race someone is if there doing nothing much they become pointless having them there, both Graham and Ryan seem to be having more development so I see more point in them, if Graham was less well acted and seemed to have less point I'd be saying get rid of him..... Basically it comes down to having to many full time companions at once is a bad thing , I think both Peter. Davidson and Tom Baker have said it before when they had 3 companions, " it just becomes too many people going ooooh doctor, look doctor, help doctor with none of them feeling like fully fleshed out characters"

I'm a fan of having 2 full time companions max really, and if you need more for a set story for a good reason then just have them tag along temporarily, don't have them there all the time just so they can do or say something important in one episode.

If you describe somebody as being there just to “tick boxes” then it does look like you do care what race/sex somebody is. If Yaz was a white man, then you wouldn’t say he was there “ticking boxes”.

There have only been 2 episodes so far, maybe wait until the end of the series before deciding somebody is only there to tick boxes?
