Has anyone watched anything!?

Still need to do part 4 of the Time Meddler, tried to sneak it in on my lunch break at work but annoyingly Google drive seems to be blocked in the office!

Sorry Matt been having problems with my pc which has meant I have been struggling to catch up and had a busy week.

I'm on my fourth attempt at getting through Time Meddler. I'll finish that tonight and get started on Tenth Planet. Will be able to get that watched over the weekend and hopefully the new serial.

I'm enjoying it more on the fourth watch of the first two episodes

the space helmet for a cow line was good

I'll give my impressions once I'm finished.

Finished Time Meddler. I enjoyed it and it had a few amusing bits but it is my least favourite of the three serials so far.

The third and fourth episodes really picked up the pace and I liked the new companions. It was good just probably didn't help that my pc kept crashing so I had to restart so many times.

I'm planning to get the DVDs of the available first doctor serials. I look forward to filling in some of the blanks. Is a shame that so many episodes are lost.

STORY 5

Okay... I've watched storylines 1, 2 and 3 but have yet to start 4 (The Tenth Planet) or 5 (The Tomb of the Cybermen).

I plan to get into the fourth one shortly.

I've watched storyline 4 - The Tenth Planet episode 1.

Quite a mysterious start to this series and the musical effects set the tone! This Ben companion seems to be a bit of a "Cor, blimey, guv!" kinda character. Had a wee laugh when the space station control guy said, in response to the Zeus 4 pilots quandary, "It's probably just space fatigue".

Oh boy! So, the Cybermen arrive and immediately go into jedi disguise mode before striking people to,the ground with the mildest of whacks :lol:

. Brilliant stuff and it sets things up for episode 2.

I did like the cool intro and outro sequence when the credits appeared with various letter symbols in between... pretty nice style for the game.

I've watched storyline 4 - The Tenth Planet episode 2.

Like humans... but without emotions! Ben soon witnessed the strength of the new arrivals, exclaiming "Blimey!" as they bent a gun with their bare mechanical hands.

With this first look at the Cyberman, they don't seem to be evil as such; just totally focused on themselves and their own survival. Sure, taking resources from Earth isn't exactly friendly, but it seems like they're doing it to for reasons of logic rather than to harm others. The ends doesn't justify the means... but they do feel less evil than the Daleks. Although the costumes are of their time, they look a bit cooler, too :shifty:

And then there is talk of a first interplanetary war

. Cue raucous music! The base's scanner shows that hundreds of ships are arriving!

I've watched storyline 4 - The Tenth Planet episode 3.

An interesting episode as you see very little of the Cybermen or the Doctor; the focus is on building the tension for the rocket launch and it does a pretty good job of it!

I wonder if the energy draining being undertaken by the planet Mondas is affecting the Doctor's energy?

Really looking forward to your reaction to episode 4!

. I can only imagine that the cartoon presentation is because the original version was lost? To be fair, the artists have done an excellent job - the characters are clearly recognisable from the earlier filmed episodes. Am I right in thinking that the soundtrack and voicing is as per the original film version, though? It's a dreadful shame if the film has been lost but, again, this comic version is extremely well done.

As for the storyline, this has been my favourite one so far. It has kept my attention and I have been eager to watch each episode. It's remarkable that the Doctor wasn't really a main character, although I am confused as to why he was so affected by Mondas. I don't feel that aspect was explained... and why did the Doctor become so poorly that he regenerated?

I enjoyed seeing the Cybermen - their appearance and even their voicing was, considering the time, pretty well done.

William Hartnell had time off due to ill health. So it was rewritten late on, with the Doctor collapsing etc. His health was one of the main reasons for recasting the Doctor.

Its always been a bit of a mystery as to exactly why it happens. Most tend to just put it down to old age of that body. The radiation on the base and the influence of Mondas on him being a contributing factor. Perhaps we will find out more at Christmas? In the original script his last words are something like "No... no, I simply will not give in!" But they ran out of time to record this. You may notice this is much like 12's recent stubbornness to regenerate and who turns up in a snowy place? The first Doctor!

Of course you might find out exactly how the show dealt with it at the time if you watch the follow up story "The Power of the Daleks". Sadly we had to skip along for the club.

Wow! I hadn't realised just how many episodes had been lost... so, just under 100 are currently missing. it seems amazing that they ever could have been destroyed.

I guess that Hartnell wasn't exactly a spring chicken when he started the show but it's a shame that it ended in that way. He seemed to play an older, knowledgeable but slightly impatient kind of Doctor :wub:

. And, of course, this enabled the first ever regeneration!

Story 6-

The Mind Robber

This weeks is 5 episodes so I've decided to give you 2 weeks. Admittedly this is mainly because you are all miles back.

Oh, man, I feel bad for being a little off the pace with the storylines. I haven't started the fifth one yet but I will try and get stuck in over the weekend.

I'm really enjoying the episodes when I do watch them, though. Thanks for continuing to organise the shows, TWA :toot:
