It's a shame as he is a great Doctor, he has just been let down by poor storylines.

I wasn't overly keen on Peter Capaldi as Dr Who. Maybe it was the poor storylines or my ageist view that maybe he was a little too old for Dr Who. Hopefully they are going to have a rethink on Dr Who because if not, they need to give it a rest again for another decade.

I wonder if the next Doctor will be a woman? Some folk have suggested this path in the past and I can see that it'd draw a lot of attention to the show.

As he regenerates it shouldn't break any of the rules of the show as he's being reborn from the dead so if switching sexes is your jumping off point then I don't think Who is for you anyway.
It's less stupid than the Tardis dragging the entire Earth to a new solar system.

True, Peter - I wasn't suggesting that I had a problem with this outcome  - but, rightly or wrongly, such a move would bring in a lot of publicity for the show.

Maybe River Song could be the next Doctor as she was universally adored.
Maybe that's why he married her as he's in love with himself.

There is no reason why the Doctor cannot be a woman or black or Asian or a child or any other form of human you care to mention. He’s an alien that regenerates into different human forms, there is nothing in the canon that would give any reason why he couldn’t be something other than a white bloke.

The absolute meltdown from the alt-right would be amazing as well.

How about the Dr becomes a porn star (female, obviously), and gets into different sorts of adventures. I'm thinking it may need to broadcast after 9pm.

Then the next regeneration he could atone for his sins and become a hermit living in a cave by himself but that would require some world class writers to make a series out of.

I'd rather they didn't do the female thing. To me its thats starting to scrape the barrel of ideas and quite frankly the show has made "female Doctors" in its own way already. Romana and River Song. No reason you couldn't do that again if you really wanted another female lead.

Never thought Capaldi would stick around for long. So 3 series seems about right to me. Would have loved it if he did 1 more with the new team but it makes a lot of sense to have a fresh start. He has already had some cracking stories and will hopefully get some more this year.

I've really liked Capaldi as a Doctor but I've basically totally given up on the show itself, which is a shame. I hope the shake-up after this season can revitalise it for me.

Incoming Doctor Who showrunner Chris Chibnall will lead the BBC’s search for the 13th Doctor when he begins work on the sci-fi show later this year. According to BBC sources, Chibnall is expected to begin leading the team searching for the new candidate in the middle of this year when he starts to become more directly involved in the series.

The future showrunner told RadioTimes.com on Monday night that he has not yet been able to fully dedicate himself to Doctor Who.Chibnall said he “hadn’t started yet” on the show and that all his energies were currently focused on season three of his ITV crime drama Broadchurch. The series has been shot but Chibnall said he is still working on the editing of the eight-part story which sees Tennant and Olivia Colman’s detectives investigate a violent rape. Chibnall added that after Broadchurch airs he plans to take a holiday before beginning work in earnest on Doctor Who.

According to sources, the search for a new Doctor will be completed in the autumn and the new Time Lord will appear in an on-screen regeneration when Capaldi leaves the role in the 2017 Christmas special. Chibnall’s series is slated to begin filming early next year with a likely broadcast in the autumn of 2018, according to sources.
