Unfortunately this isn't true. Fortunately it's likely true they are in the minority and are very fat and likely to die soon.

It's like some people have had a complete memory wipe and forgotten we've had a female Master for the past 4 years, and Missy was magnificent too!

The response does seem mostly positive though, which is good.

"Regenderation Shock" / "Docther Who" :fp:  .

I guess the announcement probably shouldn't have garnered as much focus as it has... but it is incredible publicity for the series.

With hindsight the missy thing was cleasrly a test bed to see if people would take to the idea.

There was another Time Lord on Gallifrey that switched genders too (and races). Moffat did a lot to set all that up, basically cornered the Beeb into finally pulling the trigger on it

It's incredible publicity but massively sexist. The BBC were proudly declaring that the new Who was a "woman" as if Whittaker has no identity other than her gender.

She is a very talented actress and the pundits should be focusing on the show surviving based on the quality of the scripts and storylines, because if it fails it won't be down to the lead.

Capaldi was a great Doctor but the viewing figures went on the slide thanks to the garbage scripts Moffat and Co were pumping out.

It will be interesting to see what writing they do for her.

I assumed there was going to be nerd rage over this. Silly beggars.

I'm hoping that, once the new series is underway, the fact that the new Doctor is a woman won't be such a big deal.

Incidentally... and I'm thinking out loud here when I should probably just Google the answer... are there any other Time Lords around beside the Doctor? I forget if he/she is "the last one" or whether others may still exist.

Ratings are down for pretty much everything though so in context its not really performing badly. Certainly not unexpected for a show that been running (again) for 10+ years.

New Who lives in a world of multiple channels and during this time we have seen the iplayer happen as well as Netflix and people like Jawa who decide to wait box sets. Doesn't take into account overseas ratings which I'm pretty sure have grown massively over the last 5 or so years.

As for garbage scripts. *remembers Fear Her* :dread:

People complaining the 13th Doctor is a woman? :fp:

I'm not an avid Doctor Who fan, but even I know enough to understand The Doctor's sex isn't a thing.

I do watch Broadchurch, however, and Jodie is a fine actor. She'll make a great Doctor I reckon.

As long as this means we get a young sexy male assistent this is fine.

I think it wouldn't be a bigger deal if we'd seen her in action. Both Missy and the General were revealed as gender changed characters in the episode so they were judged on merits/performance.

At the moment this is an announcement (and we've not idea of 13s character/style) so all people have to go on is "Woman!!!"

The Master is a Time Lord.

They also brought back Galifrey, so I guess there are a lot of them knocking around now.

I've forgotten what happened tbh. I might leave Doom Coalition until closer to when the final part is released in March. I promised Hypes I'd listen to The Holy Terror again and I really need to catch up with some of the other things I've missed.

:o . Blimey. I watch these series and immediately forget them :fp: .

Looking on Wikipedia, I'm reading that The Doctor can regenerate twelve times; thirteen incarnations. Could this mean that the new Doctor going to be the last? .

Moffat hit that issue and fudged a way out of it at one point so now it is all good, much like most things with him, instead of dealing with the limitation of something he just bullshit fixed it so he didn't have to actually deal with it.

It's on the Satantic Mill near the sun. I'm not entirely sure why the bad guys plan falls apart (he legs it) and the Dr and Companions are all like "lol time for a holiday"

Um...All 4 parts are out now aren't they? I have all 4...

Ah, yes - reading on it appears that the number is uncertain. I'm kind of glad that there may not be a limit as this prevents the need to do a comic-style "lets re-boot the character from the start again" rather than just developing the story.

He was granted a new series of regenerations when Matt Smith's version died.

Apparently the new one is technically the 15th Doctor. John Hurt isn't counted and Tennant once regenerated into Tennant.
