It's all overblown if you ask me. You can find criticism of pretty much anything on the Internet, I'm pretty sure Capaldi got a fair bit of flak because he was so old and I remember lots of comments about Matt Smith being too young (which ironically I think he was the best of the new Whos to actually act like an old man).

I can't really see this as pandering or anything like that as it feels like the right time as the series had become dull and stale. This will be the biggest change for the series since Ecclestone, and it's long overdue. Hopefully with new writers and a new direction they can reinvent the show again.

Also don't confuse the geeks that are cross that it ruins Canon with the right wing loons. Whilst the geeks are wrong because Who Canon is appallingly loose, they at least have decent motives.

The only way the internet will be appeased is if the 14th Doctor is a cat.

It a bit different to that. There were far faaaaaaaaaar more unhappy people when Smith was cast. Christ I remember how bad it was just here. But once people calmed down and engaged the brains they had it was ok. But for Whittaker, the problem is the people it has got to its seriously strawberry floated them up. Well in their own little world anyway. The fact they have cast a woman ruins the show and offends them. Pathetic but there you go.

Despite how a lot reacted to Smith I don't remember it ever getting an article like this- http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/entertainment-arts-40626224 I could be wrong though.

Hate the fan art. She's not even in character yet ffs. :fp: Hope she shaves off all her hair and gets a face tattoo just to make these look more out of date in a few months time. Imagine if they sent you the trailer figure Garth and it never appeared in the actual show! Imagine your poor heart! Its not right. Its just not right.

I would honestly not be surprised if they did exactly that, Character has been unbelievably incompetent in recent years (sorry, you're getting me started again). They'd then maybe fiix the problem a couple of years later, but she'd end up with giant hands or something.

Look at the gooseberry fool they initially tried to pass off as the 12th Doctor:

Image

Who the hell is that? Not even a waistcoat or cardigan on him!

They got the likeness much better on the more recent stuff (only took them 2 years to do a new head sculpt!) but his feet are literally twice as long now.

Their US partner company apparently bailed on them recently, and got bought by someone else. Their 3.75" venture was a complete failure (which it was obviously going to be, they looked awful and everyone wanted more 5"). They're basically giving us scraps now, repackaged old figures, while ignoring popular characters like Bill and Nardole.

I have no idea why they still have the license.

Now this is the important stuff. Is that the 3.75 inch one? Can just about get away with the monsters but the characters. :dread: Hard to tell them apart.

That was the 5.5 inch. Shocking!

The 3.75 inch version actually had the cardigan (it was the one on the right, the one on the left wasn't released):

The 12th Doctor was clearly played by 2 different actors.

Edit - and that was a promotional pic, here's what it really looked like:

Holy gooseberry fool, what are the chances

Announced just a few hours ago:
Character Options Renews Doctor Who Licence

Toy firm Character Options, who have held the master toy licence for Doctor Who since the show’s 2005 relaunch has renewed its deal with BBC Worldwide as UK master toy licensee for long-running SF TV series, following the announcement that Jodie Whittaker would take up the iconic role, as the first ever female Doctor.

“We are very happy that Character Options will continue to be the lead licensee for our Doctor Who merchandise,” commented Rikesh Desai, licensing director for merchandise and gaming, BBC Worldwide. “Their products excite and delight UK fans and we are looking forward to working closely with them over the tenure of new showrunner Chris Chibnall and the adventures of Jodie Whittaker as the new Doctor.”

Jon Diver, group managing director at Character added: “We are delighted to re-confirm the Master Toy License for Doctor Who with BBC Worldwide which has been one of Character Options’s key brands for over ten years. The global and loyal following for whom the ownership of toys is essential, complemented with the regeneration of the Thirteenth Doctor and Chris Chibnall being the new producer for series 11, we can be sure of an exciting few years ahead!”

The Character Group, which has offices in London, Manchester, Hong Kong and China and employs over 230 people, was founded in 1991 and designs, develops and distributes toys and games. In 2003, the Group made a decision to develop its own products to market along side those sourced from third party distributor partners. Today, over 75 per cent of all products marketed by the group are developed in-house and they’re sold in over 30 countries worldwide.

In the last 12 years, BBC Worldwide’s partnership with Character Options has seen over 10 million action figures and almost five million sonic screwdrivers sold worldwide.

The deal will see a development of new products featuring the Twelfth Doctor, Peter Capaldi, and new items are expected to hit the shops later this year, with Thirteeth Doctor product becoming available in autumn 2018.

OK, hopefully this means they'll be putting a bit more effort in again. They've mentioned more 12th Doctors and a 13th Doctor, so fingers crossed. Bill and Nardole would be an obvious choice too.

I have this. His shirt is purple instead of white. God knows why the BBC keep maintaining their contract with this abysmal company.

We're made of magic. 8-)

Character did a good job for years. But this happened-

Whaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaat. No. No. NO. This is not what happens. It was destined to go wrong from here. Like the iceberg hitting the Titanic. When you start playing Dark Souls. Or when I took over the thread from Kanbei.

The egg one wasn't quite the worst Capaldi episode, but it's down there, with the magical Earth-saving forest and the retarded castle.
