In these days of people being offended for breathing the same air as a Muslim, or hearing someone swear, or whatever, it got me thinking. Are you ever genuinely offended by something?

I can't think of an occasion when I've been offended by anything. Let's say an immature cock says something about my mum. Am I offended? No, because it's a load of rubbish. Perhaps if someone actively tried to insult me as a person, or whatever, I might take offence, but what's with people being offended by things that have nothing to do with them?

It baffles me how people can be offended by someone making a prank phonecall to somebody they've never met, or by someone of a different religion doing something that they don't like.

Grow up, focus on your own problems and stop sticking your nose in where it's not needed or wanted. What's your view? Do you get offended by all and sundry? Am I being too harsh on people who get offended easily? Go!

You know what this topic reminds me of? Asian idiots. I work at a bar and every time we have an Asian party, without a doubt we'll have trouble in the end, with some guy who looks at a girl and some other guy getting offended or something and wanting to fight. :fp: Nob ends.

Being offended by a matter which is directly unrelated to one can be either silly or valid depending on the context, everyone having their own threshold of how serious the matter is of course. This one time (in band camp) a man my mother met on a dating service and said mother were hitting it of (no shitting on the tits). At one point however my mother suddenly found him pretty much meh because he no longer seemed attractive to her, fair enough I say. But when he sends her a e-mail expressing his hurt and confusion over why she has sundenly dropped him, my mother allows my brother to read it to her in a mocking tone, which they both laugh at. Now I found this offensive as my mother and brother were mocking another human's misery.

Unless of course I was simply annoyed at them as I was worried am equally as cruel. :fp:

I don't really get offended by much, but I do get generally annoyed and so on. I don't think you have to be personally offended in order to complain about things, if you can see how others might be offended or just whether a situation is plain wrong. I think it's good that people get up in arms about things (well up to a point, it can get a bit silly) - we're all so apathetic and boring these days. Nothing like a good grumble.

The people who protest something the most are usually the people who are probably guilty of it themselves. Or so the saying goes.

I'm not sure where the line is between 'taking offence' and 'being annoyed'. I detest racism, so maybe that offends me.
Surely now some comedian is going to be racist in this thread...

You'd have to try pretty hard to offend me, the only thing that could do it would be a malicious personal attack.

India, Pakistan and Asians from that region. Not oriental. There's barely any semblance of responsibility I've seen within the younger generation. The first generation came long ago and worked hard and probably forgot to teach their kids some bloody principles.

I'll be writing to the Daily Mail about this thread.

I'll also get Terry Wogan to read my complaints out on Points Of View.

I have to agree. Whenever I'm out and about, the loudest, rudest most provocative groups are always the Asian ones. Always, without fail.

It's embarassing. The Tamil groups seem to be the worst. They'll take offence if you so much as look at their drink by accident.

There's bad types in all races, but being Asian myself, it's embarassing. It's not like we're living in the ghetto and what not, which just makes me feel embarrassed. Don't get me wrong, I love Asian parties, the music is so much better than Jamaican (black people) parties, where it's the same type of music which makes me want to kill someone, but some of the people are just out to cause trouble.
