Consumers don't, hence the fury surrounding the Xbox One reveal. No one would ever dare to repeat that.

From a publishers point of view what'd be the point of that? They'd still have the same issues they currently have with having to get a version of a game ready for disc release and then losing money to the second hand market and the price pressure used games puts on new releases.

I actually want Microsoft to start releasing exclusive games for the Bonex, because Nick's reaction will be utterly strawberry floating hilarious.

I'm happy for this gen to continue for many more years. We have games that look great and are fun to play... I think of this as being a brilliant time to be into gaming. I picked up a PS4 at launch and yet it still feels pretty fresh to me!

While I don't think we'll see actual exclusive Xbox X games I think there will be games where the difference between the two versions is pretty bloody massive.
I'm really looking forward to seeing it sat beside my Pro and maybe renting the same game on both platforms and just doing comparisons.

Certainly doesn't feel almost four years old I replaced the battery in my launch DS4 at the weekend and Was thinking about how many hard hours it has put in (and I'm really only a casual gamer, tbf). The sticks did degrade, so I've got those caps on, and now the battery has gone, but it's essentially still doing very well.

I'd love a PS4 Pro, but can't really justify it - and would rather get a Switch if I'm spending that sort of cash.

Don't get me started on the PS4 pads as they're a steaming pile of shite.
I've already broken 3 (the right trigger every time) and just as a comparison I had a launch 360 and the pad on that was rock solid and never replaced.

The pro is only really needed if you have PSVR as it can make best use of the extra horsepower.
I think Skyrim VR will be the ultimate test of this as we'll see more graphical effects on the Pro version.

Yeah, fair point. I like the idea of 4k WipeOut, but not to the point that I'd actually want to spend the fat end of £1,000 getting it.

I don't think I have Hulk hands but maybe I'm rougher than normal and I do get annoyed quite easily by my tendency to get utterly lost at the slightest sign of freedom. I have taken apart a PS4 pad before (that pad ended up in the bin as I left it on a plate in bits while I went to work and mum decided it would be nice to bin all the screws and stuff) and the part that breaks is a tiny little pin that holds the trigger in place.

I wouldn't be so annoyed if the pads were reasonably priced but these things cost £40+ and are fragile as hell.

2019 is too early. The only chance of that is if one of the manufacturers wants to steal a march on the other, but I don't think they'll risk it as they'd look underpowered once the competitor is released.

My guess is announced 2020, released 2021.

If it is 2020 for the PS5 that does also bring up the tantalising proposition of them also doing PSVR 2 at the same time.

All my launch pads are fine, what are you doing to them mate??
I think they're a fantastic bit of kit; very comfortable, lots of input options, speaker, etc.

PlayStation controllers have always been weak and creaky. I think the original Dual Shock had a bit more heft to it but that was about it.

Sony has form though (see also their PS headphones).

Two have been broken in my household. Left trigger both times. Totally Rocket League's fault!

This gen has taken a long time to get going with the extended transition period blurred by cross-gen releases. I can't see it being any shorter than last gen, and I'd hazard it will last slightly longer.

Nintendo have now fully desynced

Chicken/eggs problem there.

Expensive accessories like that need there to be a large install base, there were 50m PS4s in the wild before Sony released PSVR. I'd expect the same for PSVR2.

How expensive are these drives?

If UHD-Bluray drives are still expensive in 2021 then that would be a good idea.

I never see physical media going away though.
