T3 persisting with the whole 'it's coming in Dec 2019' stuff. Highly, highly speculative, based on reports and 'intel' from comapnies I've never heard of. Frankly, some of it reads as if gamerforever wrote it. :dread:

Still, as long as they bait, I will click.

The PS5, Sony's next PlayStation console, is coming and here at T3.com we couldn't be more excited.

We know the PlayStation 5 is incoming as it was officially confirmed to be so by Sony itself. Although, unlike what Sony said in the run-up to E3 2018, that there would be no new PlayStation until 2021, evidence has since started to accumulate that the Japanese maker is actually running a covert operation to secretly prep the PS5 for a shock release in 2019, which would be a whole year before Microsoft's next Xbox Two console arrives, which is codenamed Scarlett.

The end of 2019? That makes perfect sense both in terms of syncing up with past PlayStation console release dates, with the PS4 Pro, PS3 and original PlayStation all released in either November or December of their launch year, and also in terms of Sony maximising its potential sales by hitting store shelves in the run up to Christmas.

Ace Securities do note that while it is confident in its PlayStation 5 intel, and it has a history of being accurate, it might not be plain sailing though for the Sony PS5 release date, as if "procurement is difficult, there is a possibility that it will deviate from the end of the assumed 2019 year."

One thing is for sure, though, even if Sony can't build enough PS5 consoles fast enough to hit the Christmas 2019 release date, it certainly looks like it will be able to come the following year, putting it back on a level playing field with Microsoft's Xbox Two and not gifting it a year of unrivalled sales.

Partner that before Xbox Two or alongside it launch window, along with a raft of killer features, mind-blowing PS5 games, and an in-built secret weapon to take down Xbox Live, and it's easy to see how Sony's next PlayStation console could be a generation-winning gaming juggernaut.

You can DDOS Xbox Live straight from your PS5. I know a few people who would do it.

Which, apparently, is an overhauled PSN

I'd expect that to be the bare strawberry floating minimum, tbh.

It's going to be obvious pretty soon that Christmas 2019 is not going to happen purely because they will want more than 12 months to market it before launch so we'll need a launch event in the next few months and I can't see that happening.
I'd also rather have an extra 12 months development time to get as much of the tech of the new 2080 (I realise it will be a cut down version but they can use some of it) style cards that just got released.

Then there's the simple fact that next year has a crapload of great games scheduled anyway to keep me playing all year and I think I can wait until Christmas 2020.

A next gen version of what will undoubtedly become the best game of all time (Ace Combat 7) would be nice though :shifty: .

Maybe I'm out of touch but the current PSN and Xbox stores both seem to be a massive step backwards in terms of accessing content and user friendliness. They're a strawberry floating mess that never lets me see what I want to see.

I can't comment about the XBox store, but the PSN store is a mess. You're right: trying to find even basic stuff is next to impossible. I wanted the PES 2019 demo and could only find it by going onto the web browser store and downloading form there. In 2018.

Massive example of form over function - and it doesn't even look that good, tbf. Why do they think people want to see huge sweeping full-screen shots of games? It's nonsense. Also, it's strawberry floating slow. I was prepared to cut it some slack while my connection was bad, but now I'm on fibre, it still takes an age to do basic stuff and is really unresponsive to button presses.

The Xbox store is even worse, and slower, than the PS Store. That they now both insist on playing video automatically in the background is a horrible idea.

Current methodology, and this is true of websites as well, is to play video (and if they're real arseholes, audio too) automatically. And I hate it. I'll tell you when I want to watch a trailer, not the other way around thankyouverymuch.

Both stores are shite. Trying to find particular stuff on either is a nightmare.

“But I don't want to go among mad people,” Alice remarked. “Oh, you can't help that,” said the Cat: “we're all mad here".

Possible PS5 backwards compatibility info

https://gearnuke.com/sony-planning-back ... ps5-rumor/

Sony has registered a new patent that seems to be suggesting support of backward compatibility for the PS5. Read on see why the patent could suggest we could be getting the ability to play our PS4, PS3, PS2 and PS1 games on the Playstation 5.

The patent was filed privately before, probably as a placeholder, but updated on October 2nd, 2018.

The patent titled “Remastering by emulation” is registered to Sony Interactive Entertainment America LLC, the parent company of the Playstation brand.

Would have thought it would have to be a pretty powerful machine to handle PS3 and PS4 emulation.

Not been following this, but isn't the architecture for the new machines just a new generation of the current? If so, surely emulating the PS4 would not be a problem (in the same way the latest PC can play PC games from 5 years ago) and PCs today can emulate the PS3.

Yes?

I fully expect all PS4/Xbox One games to be fully compatible and get cheap upgrades to next gen standard (not free like the mid gen refreshes but way cheaper than remasters) which would be really interesting for some titles if we can get 4K 60fps.

I just hope the era of announcing really early with loads of "Target render" footage is over as I don't think anyone believes those any more with the amount of bullshit that been shown in the past.

There’s always a new generation of people who don’t know that.

I think Emulation is maybe the wrong word for what they're planning on PS4. PS3 would have to be emulation though, just have to wait and see how well a PS5 could emulate it.

Have you seen the state of PS3 emulation?

It's not the emulation that's the problem. Look at the specs sheet on that video:

PC specs:
CPU - Intel Core i7 8700K @ 5.0 Ghz
RAM - G.SKILL 32GB DDR4 3600MHz CL16
GPU - GeForce GTX 1080 G1 Gaming 8GB
OS - Windows 10 64bit

I've yet to see these games run well anywhere.

My bad, I couldn't actually watch the video due to being on the train but for some reason presumed it to be good. There's no way they're going to be able to emulate PS3 of PS5 hardware.
