They've just released an update that lets you switch to the Vulkan graphics API over OpenGL, which seems to be netting people even more frames.

I've just tried switching it over and the improvement in framerate is massively noticeable. Quieter areas are now well beyond 60, and even the most frantic sections are significantly better. Much better experience.

Stage 2 of my playthrough is just the Foundry level. Seemed to demand a lot of use of the minimap, especially considering I didn't use it at all in the first 2 levels. Love the map design overall.

Couldn't seem to access one area at all, though. I figure it's one of the classic stages? At around the 45min mark

Well Vulkan definitely gives me a much nicer frame rate. I'm constantly hitting 60-70 now, whereas before I was averaging high 40's. Love it. However I did get my first crash to desktop which I never had on the OpenGL renderer.

Need to go back and finish this. I don't think I'm too far from the end though. I'm in the second Hell section, a level or two past the Cyberdemon fight. Still love it.

Finished Kadingir Sanctum and played a wee bit of the next level.

Try and stick with it if you can, it really kicks up a gear in the third level and doesn't stop!

I did exactly the same :)

Very rarely do I go back to a game THREE times, but that is what I am gonna do with Doom. Should hopefully start on it by the weekend.

Was in the mood to finally start this last night.
Then my PS4 fans kicked into overdrive during first 3 mins.
Nope.
Turned it off.

Going to find a Torx 9 screwdriver tomorrow and give the thing a bloody good clean.

I've avoided playing my PS4 in the recent heat, particularly Doom. I just don't trust it to not burst into flames and/or melt.

This is so much more fun now! Cacodemon! Lost Souls! I was never a huge fan of the original game, but its demons were so iconic and so to see current gen interpretations of them is quite a kick for me. Oh and, are Revenants the most useless demons going? Pretty sure it's never come close to hitting me once with its rockets!

Well, I did this. Staggered, quite frankly, even though I shouldn't be surprised that a clean computer is a quiet computer.
When I last put Doom in someone in the next room would have been forgiven for thinking a drone was hovering a couple of feet from my head; now the PS4 has had a clean it's just humming gently whilst Doom plays.

Won't lie: I gooseberry fool myself when I put it back together and it didn't boot up, but I back-tracked and realised I hadn't lined up the two prongs in the power supply properly. Phew.

Nooo! I think I'm back on Mars now :fp: I hope the flow of demons is similar to how it was in Hell, but I am *really* disappointed about Sanctum not lasting all that long.

Setting shouldn't matter in this, but poor first half + its generally awful map made me *really* dislike Mars.

I wouldn't worry about it. You change to lots of various locations on Mars like the canals in the pole of the planet and you return to Hell. Demons, Demons everywhere! I'm genuinely confused about your criticism of the map design and poor first half though. I like the fact that the maps have sections that loop back on themselves and have piles of secrets. It's a map design that I sorely miss in modern games.

My issue is with the look, the art design of the map more than its layout. (Apologies for not being clear on that.) The secrets are great, and I think the amount of stuff to do per map is perfect, but I found the art used for the base - made worse by the slow-ish pace early on - didn't help to draw me into the game. This is my second time with the game, and I actually decided to leave it unfinished *again* before giving it one final chance to win me over. Which it did.

I just finished it tonight as well.

Really enjoyed it. Hopefully we can look forward to some singleplayer DLC.
