Is the Hell level longer than the rest? I've cleared every chapter before it in a single sitting, but I've had two sessions in this one and I'm still not done. I can't tell if it's because I'm being more meticulous with collectibles, if the enemies are taking longer to bring down, or if it's just really dense.

It might be that you're spending more time looking for secrets because there's more verticality to some of the areas. You can speed through the mission in minutes if you know what you're doing and using a super shotgun.

I ran into an annoying glitch where I collected all the suit upgrades on that level but the mission select screen is saying I missed one.

Incoming score-attack mode and classic DOOM assets for snapmap.

I've only played the Demo on the PC, but does the game get better (for anyone who has played the demo and since bought the full game)? It felt like just another generic FPS that I certainly wouldn't want to pay more than a tenner for. Hopefully it will be a fiver in the Steam sale.

The game keeps getting better and better. First few areas aren't the best. I gave up on the game 3 times (even getting rid of it the second time), and then it finally clicked.

If by generic you mean there's nothing beyond shooting stuff then, yes, this is generic. Thing is, it's probably the best pure FPS game we've had since Wolfenstein: TNO and TOB.

What I meant by generic was that nothing was standing out. I really liked the Wolfenstein game in comparison.

The games selling point is its gunplay/frenetic action. Demo does a poor job of selling that.

Do not judge this on the demo. If there's one flaw to the game, it's that it takes waaaay too long to really get going, probably a good 4 or 5 hours of a 12 hour campaign. But once it hits, it hits incredibly hard and doesn't stop.

It really is fantastic.

Arcade mode is delicious. A nice stop gap ahead of the surely inevitable single player DLC.

I even enjoyed the challenge modes. Normally I avoid stuff like that, or just half ass 'em, but in DOOM I did my best to beat 'em as well as I could.

My fave bits were the arena like sections  Would have been GotY had it been 12 hours of those!

Massive thanks to Brer and NBK for convincing me to keep persevering with this gem.

Yup. There's a couple of bits that never. Seem. To end. And I loved it. Oh what's that? Pretty pleased with yourself for finishing off those 4 Cacodemons, 3 Hellknights and 2 Revenants? How about a shitton of imps, 3 Mancubus, and 2 Barons of Hell. Oh, and some Lost Souls.

So good.

This is what I hear, but was left scratching my head a bit after playing the demo. Hopefully the Steam Halloween sale will sort me out as I don't fancy dipping my toe in at £15.

It's well worth £15. Easily.

It's on sale on Steam for £20 at the moment, it isn't going to be cheaper in a week.

You could get it for £15 from CDKeys last week or £18.99 right now. This is not a must have for me so I can just wait it out.

I completed it and traded it, but it's also been the highlight of my gaming year as well, such a throwback to the halcyon days of the old-school FPS.

Not my GotY, but most definitely one of my highlights of this gen.
