That video is great, because I feel like doom is for shooters what Mario odyssey is for platformers.

They both elicit that same kind of joy

Is there any chance this cracks the UK top 10 single format chart?

Played for a while in bed last night. This is sooooo good. Screw the framrate snowflakes, this game runs more than well enough for me, and is a whole shitload of fun.

In 10 years if I fancy playing a switch game, would I even be able to do that if any of my games had not been predownloaded or if the sd card has failed?

Most Nintendo consoles get cracked by the end of their life cycle. In my mind, piracy is the archiver of console gaming.

The Switch version of this game is the first since Perfect Dark 360 to give me motion sickness :(

Turning the motion blur down helped a bit

I'll get the switch version when it inevitably drops in price. Big boy consoles already dropped to £10.

This has sold me on the idea more than any review I've read of the Switch version. That sounds divine.

Agreed.

I've never realised how much I wanted a switch until now.
Playing Mario in bed  it'll be like having my N64 as a kid!

Sunday mornings with a bowl of cornflakes precariously balanced on the duvet

It's been in and out of stock at various places all weekend. So it could be hampered by stock.

Doom only made it to 23rd in the single format chart and 4th in the Switch chart. Sonic Forces sold better on Switch than Doom did :o . I hope that it sells well this week, else Bethesda may use it as a reason to lower support of the Switch.

Might see a boost when the price drops and stock comes in. I hope so anyway as its a cracking handheld port. I think Skyrim will do big so I wouldn't worry about Bethesda.

Doom players embrace the digital future, the charts are a lie.

I agree. And there's a lot coming out on Switch at the moment too which will have an impact.

No idea what Bethseda would consider a good ROI on coordinating these ports, but a launch at 23rd with limited stock doesn't seem terrible. Hopefully it continues to sell consistently well for a few weeks to come. Very keen to continue seeing Bethseda IPs make it to the Switch.

Luckily I had a quite shift last night and beat the second level with all the collectables. The one in the room near the yellow key card door almost drove me to You Tube but thankfully it came back to me, the sneaky bastards.

I'm so glad I picked this up over CoD. Playing Nintendo games on a handheld is great but we've had good games from them on handhelds for such a long time now, this is a proper FPS on a handheld that just happens to be one of the best games ever.

It's nice to play an FPS where you can improve and learn each time you die. Very clever game design. I feel myself improving throughout each level.

I thunk it's about trying to unlearn all the habits we've picked up from FPS games over the past 10-15 years. I'm actually enjoying it more the second time round now that I know the best tactic is to never stop running or shooting.

I honestly think this game has one of the most rewarding difficulty curves I've experienced in any genre. Everything is still a challenge 7 hours in. The variety is there and the weapons balance is solid. Dying is rarely truly frustrating because of the well placed and reasonable checkpoints. (Disclaimer, playing on Hurt Me Plenty, not sure if the other modes are as forgiving with checkpoints)

The one criticism of the game I felt was universal was that the first few levels were pretty slow and that it takes around 4 or 5 hours to really start ramping up. I agree with that (it doesn't get really good until after the Tower level) but can understand why it is like it is. As someone mentioned, it takes that long to teach the player to unlearn everything they'd learnt about FPSs in the post CoD era.

I had no idea that was the consensus, I much prefer the earlier levels. Some of the later ones were very linear and didn't allow back tracking to find the secrets.
