Going through this again on XBox One - definitely my GOTY, pending Pokemon Sun. Very happy with how it turned out.

Picked this up for 20. So just

gone to Hell a second time

I'm ready for it to be over. I enjoy the game (and it's beautifully made/responsive controls) but I think it's shown me all it has to offer several hours ago. I've not seen any new weapons (bar one story one) or new enemies for a while (bar a boss). About 2 hours ago I got a "Glory Kill all Normal Enemies" achievement.

It's good - but it feels like now I'm just killing the same enemies in similar rooms with same weapons. There's no ongoing escalation or evolution of design or mechanics - or inventive set pieces/rooms (although the room where you got the aforementioned story gun was different)

I get why - that's not what Doom's trying to be. The closest comparison I can think of is Wolfenstien. That was an old style game reimagined for the current times - combining new and old. This is an old game remade for the current times - they've added/tweaked some stuff.

Feels like it could have been an excellent punchy 7 hour game, that's been stretched out to a 10-12 hour game to it's detriment.

Started this tonight and am liking it so far. Only finished the first two missions but I love the relentless pace and how smooth it plays. I've read that these opening levels are not nearly as good as what follows so I have a lot to look forward to.

I wish everything wasn't so strawberry floating red, though. It's a but boring looking in the art department.

To be fair the game's setting is a place commonly referred to as The Red Planet ;)

Even machinery and indoor environments are guilty of it, though.

It's worth it to buy it at a cheap price and it's so much fun to play. A full of guilty pleasure with the guns and gory!

How is a universally praised game a guilty pleasure?

Maybe he means the gore is a faulty pleasure more than the game?

Gotten really into this the past few days. Got to Hell last night. This game is strawberry floating awesome.

The secrets are so bloody difficult to reach, though. :x. Am I right in assuming that I'm roughly halfway through the game at this point?

The first hell level is about halfway yes. If you want to know exactly it's level 6 of 13.

Played loads last night. Beat the giant demon boss and returned to hell again. These last few levels have been fantastic, especially the first spell in hell.

Finished this tonight. I was waiting for that banana split of a final boss to come back to life or something, considering what happened with the two bosses that came before. Outstanding game overall. My one and only complaint is that the game probably went on a little too long. It could have ended at chapter 10 or 11 maybe. Those last few chapters were mostly just giant rooms with waves and waves of enemies & not much in the way of exploration.

Hard to choose between this and Titanfall 2 as my favourite FPS of the year.

It surely is satisfying ending with the BFG. :datass:

Happy days! The space isn't a problem, it's the downloading. It's currently predicting it will take 41 hours to download! :(

It would be cool if you could have the multiplayer/map creation as a kind of add on download, so if you just want to do the campaign you would download that at like 40-50gb or whatever it is, then choose to download the multiplayer mode/map creation additionally from the main menu if you want to. Same for other games, like it would be good for gears of war 4 as that game is like 85gb now...
