Soonish, we're getting the chance to ask questions to Bethesda about Fallout 3, and hopefully more.

Has anyone got any interesting questions they'd like to ask?

Will it have that insanely modifiable difficulty level that Oblivion has - or just a common one the whole way through?

I couldn't find my right level in Oblivion so just left it

I have a few:

1. Is there a difficulty slider in the game like in Oblivion.

2. If your dog dies can you get another one from somewhere.

I can answer 2 for you, Mafro. Assuming they've not changed anything since I spoke to Pete Hines, the answer is no.

Dogs are the new bloom lighting this year. Fable 2 has one too.

In one sentence, how would you sell this game to someone new to the series/genre.

Do you really think Joe Public is going to pick this up ahead of Gears 2, Banjo, Fable 2 etc. Because I don't.

"From The Makers Of Oblivion" plastered all over it the game should do pretty damn well.

Can you ask them whether they think the case is sturdy enough to take D+PAD and Bethesda's combined weight?

Ooh, harsh. I think Fable 2 will sell boatloads personally. Banjo might have it tougher, but there haven't been any real quality platformers on the system, so I think it'll do fine. Fallout is a tough sell if you ask me, it looks drab (purposefully, of course) and the RPG aspects might be too tricky for your casual Call Of Duty fan. I honestly think it'll struggle.

Did you forget that there are other colours besides brown and grey when you were making this?

Re: The character/environment interactions.

In Oblivion when you had to complete a sensitive mission for someone (steal something, etc) you had to make sure the NPCs couldn't see you/no-one was around.

In the PAX footage (Megaton) they released a few weeks ago, the main character was able to rig the bomb in front of everyone (the Sheriff & some NPCs) & run off without being chased/asked what he was doing.

Was the NPC AI dumb downed for the purposes of the demo or is that how it's going to be the in final game. (obviously I haven't explained it very well, but hopefully you get the general idea of what I'm saying)

If I recall, the original did pretty well - I'm genuinely curious as to why that was, because it doesn't necessarily have much of what tends to sell these days.

Banjo might have it tougher, but there haven't been any real quality platformers on the system, so I think it'll do fine.

Sadly (or happily, depending on how you look at it), it's not a real platformer.

But it's from the guys who did Oblivion, and it has guns in. I'm not saying it'll set the charts on fire, but I can't see it doing much worse than those two. And I can't see any of the three being breakout hits. They're all very much gamer's games.

You think the two are compatible? I can think of quite a few people who loved Oblivion for its fantasy setting. Throw a load of guns in there and you end up alienating those people. I know what you're saying, it's a gamers game and it'll sell to the core 360 audience. But I don't think it'll appeal to a lot of people.

Can you ask them, if you are strong enough in game, can you kick a chicken at an enemy and kill them?

That should be the staple question to ask of all game developers.

That's a good point, but I'm thinking first week. I imagine the combination will stoke the fires in some people's loins, but it may mean it has a pretty steep drop-off, if what you say turns out to be right (and you could well be).

Indeed, one of my problems with the game is the combat - Oblivion's melee combat worked so well because it felt different. Fallout has tons of FPSes which it has to be compared with, and it's almost certainly (barring a late-development miracle) going to fall short on that front. VATS is fun, but I imagine the slowness of it is going to get old after a while. And you can't even use it all the time.
