I think my issue with armour is that all the Heavy Armour so far just looks like padding rather than actual armour.

So, I'm about 40 hours into this and it's awesome. I've not long got to crestwood and I'm taking my time with the game, chatting to people and picking up all the discussion and info I can. Some of the conversation can be a bit dull bit overall I'm really really enjoying the game.

I've never played the other DA games but it really feels like a spiritual successor to the KOTOr series minus the starwars and lightsabers. The world is awesome, quests are great and well thought our and introduced..... Really good. A nice change for me from FPS or driving games that I've needed.

I've found the game is quite buggy, I've come across various glitches. I've hot plenty of other stuff waiting in the wings, lots of PS+ stuff, far cry 4, I just can't bring myself to put this aside. Brilliant from bioware.

So I finished this and the last third was ruined by being way OP. I didn't even grind, just did a few choice quests and more challenging rifts.the more I think about what I actualy did the game the worse the whole thing seems to me. I kept expecting extra mechanics to be introduced to give meaning to a lot of disparate elements but it never came. Shame, I was loving it till I realised there was nothing more to it.

Also, while some of the characters are good, overall the writing wasn't anywhere near the quality I expected having never played a bioware game before.

I have to say, I'm a fan of the writing personally. I loved the backstory of the Elves in particular, and their fall, but the humour, and interplay between characters were also a high point for me. At first I did think they were retreading the same ground (Vivienne's conversations with Blackwall were reminiscent of Morrigan and Alistair; but later we see a very different side to Vivienne), but everything branched in quite interesting ways. I personally thought every character arc was quite special, Varric and Cassandra was a lot of fun, Iron Bull's was hilarious, but Cole's was quite out there, and treading ground quite unique to this style of RPG. I loved what went on with the Grey Wardens, and I found the arc with the Seeker's quite interesting. Leliana's crisis of faith was very deftly handled, and one of the more touching elements of the game for me.

I do wonder if some of the more interesting aspects can be missed, or consumed in a way in which it loses power. I did areas as a whole, and the stories of the area were linking, and the information when you claim a landmark all seemed to enchance the experience. But I wonder if I were to dip in and out of each area, if some of it would have been lost on me.

I genuinely can't wait for DLC, or DA4. I'm hugely happy they didn't abandon everything from DA2 after the reception it got, as it introduced some really great characters and lore, which a lot of people didn't get to see, because they hated the look, or the mechanics or the structure. I find Dragon Age to be a unique experience, so many of these fantasy RPG's are generic as hell, and like Fable, Dragon Age does things in a way which gives it real character and charm. I still haven't played game besides this on my PS4 I got on Boxing Day, despite having four retail games and several games from Plus and sales ready and waiting. It's just too absorbing, and I don't want to dilute the experience.

So, bought this in the Critics Choice sale. Spent a good 20 minutes making a character that ended up looking like a downy Jared Leto when I actually got in game. Off to a great start. Played the first 10 minutes and I must say graphically this is doing nothing for me. The character models are terrible, probably comparable to DA2. I mean, the scenery is lovely, and like I say I'm only 10 minutes in, but it's not as impressive so far as I've heard. It also continues the BioWare tradition of terrible game openings.

Still. Onward!

Finished this yesterday, clocked in at around 80 hours and took down 7 dragons. Incredible game and I really enjoyed it, it just kept pulling me back in.

I agree it doesn't look anything special, although there are a few areas that do look quite nice.

Generally, it's quite daunting for newcomers, but the DA 'keep' feature is awesome. After using that the plot, the story and the lore were great and I just couldn't get enough. I found it had so much depth, with so many varied groups.

I loved exploring the world and picking up quests, and there are so many of them. I would have liked quests to have had more context for the world and the main story. There were far too many meaningless tasks (clear caves, place flowers on graves, find dead friend) that you could do, to recruit 'agents' which then didn't have much impact on the final result, unlike in ME3 and the 'readiness' meter. The 'power' in this is so readily available it didn't affect the game.

The weakest part of the game is the combat. I would have liked more skill based elements (similar to ME) but I found the strategy quite fun and necessary when playing on hard. I think playing on less than that and just holding RT must be pretty dull.

The game reminded me a lot of KOTOR, which is a very good thing. It does have its faults and bugs but the character interactions (play around with party members and switch them) was great. I liked that your play style made you closer to some characters than others via the 'approval' system.

I will play this again some day (hopefully) but it's a huge time investment and has taken me away from reading/tv and other games. I'll be going for short games for a bit now. This will be traded in, and I shsll pick up some complete version in the future (hoping for dlc) or if I see the game in a sale in years to come.

Bravo Bioware.

Finally finished this today, only short a few puzzle pieces, a bugged quest, a couple of banners, and a couple of trophies (Hard & Nightmare runs, which I have no intention of doing). Interesting post credits ending, I hope it's going to be explored in the DLC. I'd probably rank it alongside Origins, I thoroughly enjoyed it, and put around 95 hours into it. I started to get a bit of slowdown during that last High Dragon fight though, and the trophy didn't initially pop, I had to kill it again, which I was much quicker at.

Agreed about the ending. i found solas to be a dick throughout and always seemed to 'dissaprove', I thought the ending was a bioware thing about who you were mates with and not. Solas, a prick.

I wasn't a fan of his either. I've always liked Flemeth though.

Finally getting into the meat of the story in this, about 25 hours in  met the Elder (who looks hilarious) and had a massive scrap. Looking forward to taking on a Dragon eventually.

Loving just walking about the world, glorious. Agree that the character models in cutscenes look crap though. Dat music

Making some headway in the Hinterlands and wow, the reviews weren't kidding about the influence of MMOs. Pretty much every quest is fetchy in the extreme. Not that I'm not enjoying it, but it is a little overwhelming with all the different currencies (Power vs Influence, still not entirely sure what the latter does and am confused as to the rarity of the former).

Power is basically "level" for your Inquisitor to be able to spend on perks, whereabouts Influence is really XP for Power.

I'm not sure that's true. Influence is for Inquisition perks and Power enables you to go further into the world by unlocking areas and story missions (on the war table you'll see some require x amount of power to unlock). I ended up with 248 Power spare though, so it's not something you'd need to be overly concerned about.

Cheers lads. But clearer now.

I'm really enjoying it so far but one aspect I really, really hate is the Free to Play-esque use of time barriers. I just completed the horse trainer quests (scout the watchtowers, kill the wolves), go to the War Table to complete them and learn I have to wait almost one real time hour until I can move on. I couldn't believe it! What value or entertainment does this mechanic add to the game? I suppose it means I have to explore other quest lines while I wait but I was going to do that anyway... Who sticks to the main quest in any Bioware game? Ugh. Not a fan of that at all.

There's one (or few) where you need to wait full day.

Not fan of it either.

Although a bit shitty, I never found the timed thing an issue, or 'power'. I found there was plenty of other stuff to do while I set commander missions running, but it also meant I had gooseberry fool load of excess power.

It did get annoying when I wanted to explore and I came across an area that I couldn't access until I did the missions, e.g. Fix bridge and clear poison gas etc.

I read lots of stuff online as I found it quite daunting. 2 useful tips, get out of the hinterlands and make sure you don't sell yellow shaded items that are from dead enemies, these should be put into the research of enemies to help you. Oddly, the game puts them into 'valuables' which I originally assumed I should just sell all.

If only there was a way to get around it by disconnecting your device from the internet and altering the date. There is. That.

First playthrough I did it the legit way as I had so much to be getting on with, but with the second playthrough I was skipping a lot of the side stuff and CBA waiting around.

Is this getting some DLC very soon? Noticed there was a decent sized update queued up for it tonight.

I have to say, I'm not finding the plot to be particularly absorbing - this 'Mage vs Templar' thing was done to death in DA II, surely they can think of something else?
It's all a bit...dense. The lore, I mean. After a few years since DA II, I was - and still am - a bit stumped as to what they're occasionally talking about.
