I just took the opportunity to advance the story rather than do remaining wyrm hunts,. Just wanted to try to get a bit more grabbed by it.

Tbf the other choices result in a small cutscene and then a game over until you take that route.

Just did the Witchwood quest.

*finally reach Witchwood after battling through many bandits and multiple deaths*

*approach Quina or whatever she's called* Oh you came looking for me? I heard there's a witch in these woods who can speak Dragon. Let's go find her!

*run about in dark getting possessed by ghosts*

*eventually reach witch's house*

Q: Hello. We're looking for the witch.

Young girl: Witch?

Q: Yes, we're looking for the witch. I heard she can read/speak dragon. She's an old lady, maybe you've seen her in the woods?

YG: Grandma? She's dead.

Q: Oh. Did she tell you how to read/speak dragon?

YG: No.

Q: Oh. Thanks anyway!

*proceed back to starting village, in the dark, getting ambushed by wolves every step of the way*

:dread: :slol:

The fights and journey back in the dark I enjoyed. The mission itself... not so much. I'm guessing it's part of a multiple mission chain. Don't recall doing it first time around... maybe because I accidentally on purpose killed Quina almost as soon as I got my first weapon. :fp:

I did that one, it seemed odd. I have a mission to go back now.

I'm still playing this, something about it keeps me going, just hit l30 but probably need to do more side missions, haven't really wanted but near end of game now.

I want to say ignore the escort missions but some of them lead to other mission types. The kill X amount beasts missions are always worth picking up as you can do 'em while you quest and there's no backtracking to hand it in (you get your reward upon killing the last creature).

For me it's the whole fighting deadly deadly, sometimes giant, creatures in groups thing that makes me keep hitting retry after I cop it. Funny thing is the hardest enemy I face at my current level is the shield carrying bandit. :fp:

Yeah those battles are brilliant, the big ones,

Is your current one a brand new char then?

Thinking back to when I last completed this... am I imagining it or did having a female in your party during a troll fight arouse the troll? :? :slol:

Yeah started from scratch. Gone with a mage this time and ranger as main pawn. Last time round I was a ranger with a knight.

I went for a Fighter with a Mage. Sometimes I wish I could range but it's ok generally.

Got up to the final mission of the main story but need to go do some stuff and get higher level before hitting it I think.

Getting around is easier now that we smash pretty much anything quickly even when we are walking.

Will def have a go at playing warrior class at some point. And magic archer is meant to be good fun too.

I levelled up to the next caster type. I can no longer cast heals. :fp:

Tip for anyone else playing as caster and having difficulty enchanting own weapon: click left stick to aim at self.

The final battle really highlights what a liability the pawns are and how gooseberry fool the fighter class is for the last boss. Not much fun.

Pawns too stupid too attack it.

I feel your pain, Fishy. Beat a/the amber drake for the first time (this is my second time playing DD) and I spent most of my time reviving my companions.

First time I played this fighting the drake was a real DarkSoulsNope.gif moment for me. I couldn't even take its first health bar down! So this time around I cheated slightly and looked up what its weaknesses were and went prepared (swapped out my fire spells for lightning ones). Took a few goes to get good at the fight -I even copped it with it only needing one more hit to the heart. But I got the killing blow on the next go and it felt good. Will farm it for laughs and giggles when I need a diversion between main missions.

Cheers saint. I kind of gave up on them in the end and just went afte him with my main pawn. Go there. Just realised I needed to accept I was in for a long fight I think and to ignore them.

Good call on reading up more i need to do that.

Received a surprising gift from a friend in the form of a boxed copy of Dark Arisen (because I like dragons, apparently). How many hours of gameplay is it and is the original game absolutely necessary to play beforehand? I have plenty of games to get through and not sure if I have enough for the original!

Dark Arisen = original game and new content on one disc.

How many hours? 20-30 if you do main content only. Another 20 hours on top of that if you explore everything.

Tips: Don't go wandering too far until you have a good handle on the game (and a few ferrystones for fast travel)
Feel free to ignore the side quest escort missions but do pick up the kill creature ones.
Keep an eye out for the portcrystals you can pick up. There are two main ones whose location you can't alter but a whole bunch of others you can set down (over and over) to make travel easier.

And make sure you install HD texture pack disc (disc 2) if there is one.

Great, cheers for the info.

I pretty much did what saint said there and it probably was around twenty hours.

Overall it's been a good experience. I will definitely play a bit more. It has some great moments.

Think I finished my first play through at round about the fifty hour mark, but that was doing plenty of side mission stuff.

The expansion is really for those who have already finished the main game. It's hard as nails.

I heard you need to be around level 50 to stand a good chance on the DLC stuff.

I'm glad I started from scratch instead of jumping straight into the island. I did regret it a bit at first but once I got back into the groove I've been really enjoying it. Except for one bit: fighting golems as a caster :dread: :dread: :dread: Thank floop I picked a ranger as my main pwn.
