Oh goddamn it.

Just playing through Speedrun mode.

Get to the ending with the Seneschal where you need to use the Godsbane.

Used it on myself instead :fp: fml.

EDIT: Second time's the charm. Literally had to play through the whole game again because I used it 10 seconds too early  :fp:

Bought this during the sale and I'm finding it a slog :fp: Loved my first 2 playthroughs and so a 3rd is probably asking a little too much, even though they were completed years ago. Oh well! Something to try again when nothing else takes my fancy.

Conversely I’m on my fourth playthrough now :shifty: Gonna try and break the level 100 barrier then attempt Bitterblack Isle again. The Conqueror’s Periapt/Blast Arrows combo utterly eats up the bosses in the main game :slol:

Tried to take on Daimon with two sorcerers, a mage and a warrior. It did not end well :slol:

Shot him with the Maker's Finger second time around and it barely scratched him! Took him out in the end, though. No messing. Now time to check what Bitterblack Gear I got! The first thing I purified that was any good was that awful unicorn horn :fp:

Shocking.

It seemed like every pawn I hired had it for a while. Now I’m level 126 so everyone seems to have slightly fancier armour, while I’m still getting rubbish from the purification :x Not sure if I should roll it back to normal to start trying to farm the lv3 stuff from the big beasts or if I should just leave it for the time being. Are there any items or something that improve the chances of better cursed drops?

On the last stage of the dungeons for Daimon 2.0 now. Still missing the last memoir thing, hopefully I’ll spot it this time around!

Started my...fifth(?) playthrough to try and get up the final few levels to 200. So I did the last few quests in the post-game.

Got the cutscene on the beach, and...:

Seeing that Dogma has now arrived on Switch, I did some digging on the game and found this (older) vid. It sounds pretty neat!

Cool to hear that you're enjoying it, Orange. It sounds like the kinda game that you can choose what to do and when; quite a lot of freedom? I am looking forward to trying it out at some point.

Yes and no - it's an open world RPG, and there are choices in quests, but there is also lots of time limitation on when quests are available

I think I'll pick this up on Switch soon. Over the years, I've heard very good things about this game but I've never had a chance to give it a go. Switch would be a great fit for it, I think.

After unlocking the first of the two shortcuts and beating a boss on Bitterblack Isle, I seem to have hit a wall in standard enemy strength.

In the everfall, I've also hit a bit of a wall with the ur-dragon.

I'm pretty much done with everything else that I've found (I might be missing some of the dragons to kill, haven't looked up the locations), and I have well over the 20 wakestones needed to continue the main quest. Should I just press on with that? I read that I won't be able to go back once I do, but also there is a new game plus so my progress can carry over to that?

Grabbed this off Steam for £7 after reading/hearing about it for years and I'm already having a blast.

I've managed to avoid the early game learning curve simply by employing two ridiculously OP pawns for free. One is from a random dude I met in Destiny and the other belongs to Hexx. The system itself is fascinating, and really well done.

The structure is odd as strawberry float, "here's the open world, do these tasks and we'll get back to you with the story later" but it makes for a great podcast game!

I pretty much ended at where I posted above as the remaining post-game had a huge difficulty spike (probably meant for new game plus). Despite only playing the once I easily now consider this one of the best RPGs I've ever played and I really should have played it sooner!

I kind of liked the early game learning curve - it wasn't too harsh and I liked knowing wandering off to certain areas would put me in actual danger. The way pawns have enemy and quest knowledge is really cool so I appreciated seeing that in pieces rather than immediately hiring someone's endgame pawn with knowledge of everything - plus it meant I was mixing up my hired pawns fairly often as I progressed which was fun for the changing team builds.

The pawn system is definitely fascinating and really well implemented, from the stupidly robust character creation (what other game lets you freely create child soldiers?) to the aforementioned knowledge of monsters, locations and quests. There is the oft-quoted repetitive dialogue that falls out from it but that itself has a memetic charm! Assassin's Creed Valhalla has "Jomsvikings" which is basically a really simplified (and unintegrated) pawn system and playing that recently really highlights how well Dragon's Dogma handles it.

What I think on most though (other than the various mechanic abusing but designed for platforming tricks) is the obfuscated relationship system. From reading up I'm very glad I played Dark Arisen with the rebalanced system to avoid falling in love with the town blacksmith (quite why people talked to him so much though I don't understand!). The obfuscation really is key to making it feel so emergent and surprising, and the jank that comes with it is more than acceptable. The whole game is janky and its a perfect example of how I'd rather play a game like that than one polished but lacking in interesting mechanics.

I also really appreciate the timed aspect of the quests and how they (and even the world) change throughout the game. It makes it feel so much more dynamic than the time-revolves-around-you feeling you get from games like Skyrim.

I keep thinking of it as "Skyrim but far more interesting" and I too am finding the pawn system stupidly charming, to the point where I know I can turn off all their barks but I really don't want to. Hearing "Wolves work in a pack!" hundreds of times is both funny and actually plays into the idea that pawns are these weird half-men that are just impersonating people. And having two super skilled companions means they're essentially acting as guides for all the early content.

I haven't looked into the relationship stuff at all as yet, and don't really plan to. Just sort of bumbling through the whole thing really feels right. And yes, I do love the blacksmith.

"Masterworks all!"

Picked this up on PS4 just before Christmas, sitting there sealed, I really need to give it a go.

Do it, it's strawberry floating great. Coming off Cyberpunk onto this, despite it being 8 years older this somehow feels far more progressive and innovative. It is indeed janky, but at least it's janky because it was doing something new (which is still pretty unique to this day apparently!).
