Oh man Grandia 2. I'm not one for JRPG esque games but that one, I absolutely loved.

Grandia II's unique battle system made it.

Skies of Arcadia is a beaut of a game. If only it had Grandia II's battle system then it will be definitely cement SOA as my number one RPG forever (although it has still been for years.)

Got myself in a Dreamcast mood and thinking of digging the old beauty out but I'm gonna need a VGA. Any recommendations or will any old tosh do?

Volgarr the Viking has been released for free for the Dreamcast

http://volgarr.rkd.zone/index.html

Ghost Blade is also out now, thinking of picking it up but it seems to only be available at Playasia and Videogameimports at the minute which means it will cost more. Regular edition is £27 which isn't the worst

Wait, so are there actually people still making games for the DC?

I really don't see the point in making games for discontinued consoles :?

People still play old consoles so why not?

A lot of the 'new' DC stuff is made by fans of the console why do it purely for nostalgic reasons, I think it's pretty cool that there's an active development scene for old consoles.

The relatively recently released PC version of Pier Solar started off as a Megadrive game which was made years after the console became obsolete.

Another year goes by since segas final console was released. Ah, some great gaming memories in such a short period of time...launch day with sonic adventure...playing shenmue during the winter months...getting ferrari 355 challenge on import at cex after playing the arcade version in lanzarote a few days before. Ah, virtua tennis, jet set radio, online gaming with toy commander, chu chu rocket. So glad i got one on launch day, but a shame sega couldn't support it for a few more years! Forgot about crazy taxi!

I understand the nostalgic reasons but it seems like it really limits the number of people who will get a chance to play a game. How do they even make the cartridges? At least with the DC you can just burn it to a normal CD and play it.

Man that is actually such a nice feature, that essentially even though the console is dead we fairly easily get any game ever made for it since you just burn it to a disc and it works.

One of my videogaming regrets is not getting a Sega Dreamcast. My money was very tight at the time and I stuck with the PS1 for a few more years. Looking back I wish I had gotten into the DC... I looked on enviously whenever I saw it on shop display units. The bright, bold imagery of stuff lke Crazy Taxi and Virtua Tennis was right up my street.

See if you can get one now.
Though since the Shenmue 3 announcement second hand Dreamcast sales have gone through the roof, so they might start getting difficult to get hold of.

Just looking at the DC and I can't quite believe what a short lifespan it had over here. Also seems weird that it had big game launches after it was discontinued...I guess that's a factor of Sega leaving the console market altogether.

EDIT - I remember really looking forward to playing Propeller Arena on DC. If you aren't aware it was delayed and then cancelled because it was possible to crash planes into skyscrapers (obviously not what the game was about). Its apparently out there and you can play it, but it would have been great to play on DC I think.

In my top 5 consoles which is mental considering how short a time it was around. Just goes to show the value of the games...
