Yeah, Shenmue's one of those games you need to get immersed in and experience. Trying to complete it as quickly as possible can spoil it.

And theres no point rushing it as the third title is pretty much never going to come out, so enjoy what Sega have done.

Yeah, I am playing through it at a pretty leisurely pace, and started the second disc yesterday evening.

Assuming they still have it, I know a shop that has the second game in stock, so might try and pick that up in advance.

Yeah, make sure you do that as you will want to get on to the second after completing the first one!

Picked up some more DC games today. Pick of the bunch would probably be Shenmue 2, but I have uploaded photos of all of them below. My most sought after game is the original Jet Set Radio, and I have had no luck finding it so far. I don't really like Akihabara, and so am searching elsewhere to avoid having to go there!

All of these were in mint condition (instruction booklets and other gubbins all as new), with the most expensive being Shenmue 2.

I think I might get the old Dreamcast out this weekend and leave it there for a while. If I can find the mental strength to get through that annoying bit in Shenmue 2 I will as I want to experience the last section again and this time will make sure I keep a save file especially for that section so I can replay it over and over again every year!

I have so many games on the Dreamcast I want to restart like Daytona USA, Sega Rally, Sonic Adventure, both Crazy Taxi games, Shenmue 1 and Jet Set Radio!

I do hope my Dreamcast lasts me a lifetime.

I know a place that I can get Daytona, so will do so ASAP. It should be worth it, if only for the theme music!

You have to get the wheel for Daytona to be any good on Dreamcast, it handles terribly on a Dreamcast pad :(

Took the Dreamcast out this morning, the graphics still hold up very well and put most of the Wii stuff to shame!

I'm itching to play Crazy Taxi again, and Space Channel 5. Oh, and Silver! We have cleaned our sitting room so I don't need to wade through piles of boxes and clothes to get to the telly either.

I completed Silver without knowing about the magic spells and learned sword moves for virtually the whole game. When I needed to hit someone far away I used a wand. What a plonker.

Brilliant console and games, but I am finding a lot of them to be short experiences. It gave me some brilliant gaming memories like Sonic Adventure on the consoles launch and Shenmue 1 and 2 during those late Winter nights. I am glad I supported the console and stuck by it rather than flocking like sheep and waiting for the PS2, which did not really come good until a few years after its release imo.

Haven't used my DC in about 5 years as I've lost all the leads. But I just bought a VGA box online - woohoo! Ordered it from the US as it was only $27 including postage.

Unfortunately, I can't find my copies of Chu Chu Rocket, Soul Calibur or Craxy Taxi anywhere. I'll have to have a good look about tomorrow. On the plus side they're about the three most abundant DC games and I can probably pick them up pretty cheap before the lead gets here.

Edit -

Got my 'new' copy of Soul Calibur through today. It's used but absolutely pristine. It was a really odd experience getting a 12 year old game through the post, it made it feel really new again and I'm peculiarly excited. But I'm still waiting for my VGA cable from the US - it's going to be interminable.

Does anyone know if the VMUs hold their saves over time or whether they lose their memory if not used for a few years? I won't be too fussed if I have to play through games to unlock things again but it would be convenient if I don't have to.

Edit 2 -

Just bought Vanishing Point and Zombies' Revenge on Amazon. How did I miss these games? Vanishing Point has got some fantastic reviews and I'd never even heard of it, it's supposed to be an excellent racer once you get past the shonky handling in the early stages. And ZR is exactly the sort of game I'm wheeling my DC out again for.

It came!!!

Graphics look phenomenal! Played some Crazy Taxi and some Soul Calibur. It's not often you go back to games and they're exactly how you remember them but this is one of those times. I guess the VGA adapter really helps. I actually think Soul Calibur looks better than the XBLA release, the colours are so vivid.

I was disappointed to die once on my first run through in Soul Calibur in about 7 years, damn you Cervantes! And then I checked the options - I was playing it on Ultra Hard! My muscle memory on this game is insane. Playing as Misturugi and I haven't got a clue what the moves are but somehow my hands are just doing them. Jesus, the days, weeks, months, I must have poured into this game... scary.

Sorry RDR Undead Nightmare, you'll have to wait a while before I play you again. Dreamcast =

Just unearthed my old magazine demo discs from the loft and I've got to say playing some games for the first time in a decade most have aged horrendously.

In the launch 'window' there's a HUGE gulf between Soul Calibur, Sonic Adventure, Virtua Fighter 3, Sega Rally 2, House of the Dead, PowerStone and the REST. Honestly didn't expect to play games like F1 World Grand Prix and Buggy Heat and see PSone graphics.

Silver.

Once I get my paws on a working Dreamcast I need to get round to finishing it. Not sure how far I was from the end, but I must have been close. Great game.
