No, it keeps getting put back. But I have seen one Youtuber that says the beta will be out this year, hopefully this will be open and people's creations will carry over to the main game. The recent demos I have seen for the game have blown my mind; the ambition here is astounding, it really looks like you can create almost anything. As I've said, I won't be making stuff, but LBP exposed some amazing talent and I believe this will go even further. Cannot wait!

I wasn't that bothered about this, because I "admired" LittleBigPlanet, but you couldn't make a truly excellent platform game, although it was still fun to see the imaginations of truly creative people. But I thought it would be the same here... a great tool for expressing the imagination, but not a great "game".

Anyway, I've just seen a demo of the tools for music creation on Dreams, and it's now a day one purchase.

Can't wait for this. I have so many ideas for things I wanna make. Characters, animations, games, stories, music,... my mind won't stop.
I was hoping it would release sooner, but it's looking more and more likely that it might not see a release this year (latest word: beta towards the end of the year, with the full release coming sometime soon after that). Could still happen of course. Beta in October, release in December?

Just ordered a PSVR headset off of Amazon in preparation for this. Wasn't planning to get one just yet, but after putting it in the basket to check the overall price (importing to Iceland means it's not 100% clear what the final cost will be until I hit the final step of the checkout process, due to shipping and the import fee deposit (and sometimes the VAT isn't applied)) it turned out to be way lower than I was expecting it to be (~£240, which is about £90 chepear than the cheapest I've found it locally (and that's for the version with a camera and VR Worlds, whereas the headset by itself was £50 more expensive  (after checking the other bundles it turns out I could've got it with either Bravo Team or Superhot VR for the same price :fp: (but I'm not too bothered about that as I've no interest in the former and I've played Superhot on my Vive)))).
I'm sure I'll find some other use for it in the meantime, but this is kind of like back in December of 2015 when I bought a PS4 in anticipation of the 2016 beta for Dreams (which never happened). :fp:

Anyway, Dreams!

For what ever reason I’ve not been paying attention to this, but just watched one of the E3 demos and it looks incredible. For people that have been following it, any idea if you use a first person view for your games?

It would be amazing if you could make games as a group.

You can certainly share assets, so if some if you are great at character design and some can plan amazing levels you can team up! From what I've seen you can make anything in this: FPS, puzzle games, RPGs, space shooters, it's just strawberry floating incredible!

Here's an excerpt from the Game Informer podcast where they talk about Dreams for 30+ minutes. There's tons of new footage playing in the background (including a longer look at the co-op platformer in the gif posted above).

Edit:
229 Rapid-Fire Questions About Media Molecule's Dreams

In regards to making films in Dreams, and how long they can be:
Q: Is there a limit to how long a film can be that's made in Dreams?

A: No. And in fact you can make a [hundred] levels in a map, and then you can put a hundred maps in a map each with a hundred levels, and then you can put a hundred of those in a hundred maps, so you can make a level that's like a hundred to the power of four which is a hundred thousand million levels long so if each level is a scene then that's a few years.

I think he got the math a little wrong (it's only a hundred million).

Q: Don't you ever want to cheat and like make something outside of the tools of Dreams and just kind of slip it in real quick?

A: Every time Dreams doesn't do something that our designers want we sneak it in and don't tell Siobhan. (co-founder of Media Molecule and studio director)

Q: And who's Siobhan?

A: The one who says no.

A nice compilation video of first person games people have made

Going to be interesting to see how people go about recreating existing first person shooters in this

I love watching MM make things in this and seeing our models and levels come together but I can’t help but get the sense they’re being incredibly naive about what newcomers will be able to do with it when it eventually releases. Every time they show it they seem to boast about how quick things are to make, apparently forgetting that they’ve been using it for the past 4 years and many of them already come from creative backgrounds.

Also they should be doing a better job of tempering people’s expectations. When someone asks the question can I make a FPS or an RTS etc. The answer shouldn’t be a simple yes, but an explanation of how mechanically complicated something like that is and maybe people should be setting their sights a little lower. I can’t help but think people are going to come in thinking they’re going to make a game like the ones we’re seeing in these preview videos only to realise it’ll take 100s and 100s of hours with the game to become proficient to knock stuff like this together over the course of a weekend.

Media Molecule celebrated the 10 year anniversary of LBP on stream and showcased a mini remake of LBP (sackboy, pod, pop-it, 4-player and a pseudo-remake of the first level) made by someone at MM in their spare time:

Anyone else in the beta? I’ve been looking forward to playing Dreams for years, but I’ve been surprised just how much they’ve packed in. Can’t wait for it.

Yeah, I got into the beta. Signed up for the newsletter just in time, three days before the cutoff date.

Not sure how much I can say without getting in trouble over the NDA. I'll say that playing with the tools makes it clear why it's taken this long. It's immense.
Can't wait for more people to get access to it in the new year when the sign-ups go live.

Yeah it’s a very deep and broad tool bag. I’ve had a lot of fun just tinkering. I really hope it’s a success for them.
