Finally got to see this after missing 'all' the 2D showings that were on at the cinema last year.

I noticed that too but it didn't ruin my enjoyment at all. Top class and good to have a proper Dredd film out there at last. I was glad of the low/lesser budget feel, it was like watching the Terminator or something. Great stuff.

Also I love how in this film they've gone for that 80's sci fi look with all the technology. For some reason, I find it much more believable that stuff in most modern sci fi films. I guess because now it feels more like an alternate future instead of trying to predict what technology will look like in the real life future.

Hmm, can't say I noticed a drop in quality at any point. I probably will next time I watch it.

This movie was a huge disappointment. What's with the bit where he tells the last baddie "wait" so he can pray that the girl saves him?

Exactly. Dredd would have pulled the bullet out and flicked it right through the last Judge's eye. Although having said that, I could actually have seen that part being played out in the comic, part of the black humour.

There must be a name for that trope, where the bad guy is about to kill someone, then at the last second gets killed by someone you haven't seen in a while/thought was dead. It happens in everything, all the time, to the point where there's no tension at all anymore if it happens. I watched a film or episode of something recently, can't remember what it was, where that happened at least 5 times.

It happens in Dredd. Was it perhaps the last 5 viewings?

Happens in 24 pretty much every other week.

I assume that would be Chekov's Gun or an associated trope thereof?

Finally watched this last night. Awesome movie and was great to actually see an action film that didn't give a gooseberry fool about the rating and didn't tone down just to get a 12a.

2000AD have started an official petition to make a sequel. Karl Urban also made some noises about it last week, I believe.

There's also a facebook page to like:

I don't understand. Who would we be petitioning? Surely a sequel will only be made if the original (and I'm not talking about the Stalone one) made enough to warrant a sequel.

Weren't the Blu-Ray sales pretty good and it was only box office performance that was poor thanks to it being only in 3D a lot of places?

The Blu-ray was mostly grainy as hell which added to the whole 'made for tv' feeling it all seemed to smell of.

The 2D version on the Blu-Ray is apparently terrible quality, almost SD at times. The 3D rip is perfectly crisp. I have no idea why they didn't just put the best 2D quality version on there. Some other regions had a perfect copy. We got shafted, yet again.

I believe we're supposed to think that she told him telepathically that she had the shot. That's what I assumed, and that's what most people I talked to also assumed.

Bullet went clean through, which is why we see Dredd patching up the exit wound at the front.

It seems to me that the biggest issue people have with this film is "they didn't explain everything to me, they just showed me everything and expected me to understand what my eyes were seeing".

I saw this last night and thought it was great. It's like night and day between this and the Stallone film. Urban plays Dredd like a futuristic Clint Eastwood!

I really hope they do a sequel.

2D version is grand.

The oppressed are allowed once every few years to decide which particular representatives of the oppressing class are to represent and repress them in parliament.

I don't think that includes Blu-ray sales though, just box office.
