PostDrinking alcohol on your lunch break?

Had a discussion at work just now about this.

The unit next door to us often downs tools and goes to the pub at lunchtime.
I made a remark about how I'd love to do that, but was told that I'd face disciplinary action if I consumed alcohol on my break.

So, are you allowed a pint of larger on your break?
Would you consume booze if you were allowed to? Or would you rather remain 100% sober for the whole working day?

Or are you not allowed, but you do anyway?

I don't think we're allowed to, but I wouldn't anyway. Daytime drinking doesn't agree with me, let alone if I have to return to work afterwards.

I'm pretty sure we're not allowed to but people do it anyway. I selected "I can, but choose not to" as I generally don't drink on lunch. However, if it's a Friday and some people fancy a lunchtime pint I can be persuaded. I do think it makes the afternoon worse if you have a couple of beers, as I will be gasping for more of that sweet sweet booze the whole time.

We are allowed to, occasionally the bosses will take us out for food and lunchtime and they are happy to buy us a glass of wine or pint of beer.

I hate it doing it though, it makes me feel lethargic for the rest of the afternoon and it’s probably quite dangerous for me to carry on driving the bus.

Used to when I worked in city centre. Now we've moved to an industrial estate in the middle of nowhere it's put a stop to that :(

I have been known to, but only on days where its a chillout (last day before christmas, last day of team gathering etc) and then only one or a shandy. Never if I am driving.

Our office in London literally has it's own pub inside.

I dont think we are allowed to, when I was at the NHS we fairly regularly went to the pub at lunch but yeah it does leave you feeling lazy and you end up doing very little for the rest of the day.

I used to have a drink on my lunch break a couple of jobs back - I was the team manager and the team were my friends, so we'd just take our sandwiches to the old man pub round the corner and have a pint every day.

The culture was less like that in my last job, even though there was an onsite bar. In this job I wouldn't dream of it. I guess that reflects the fact I've moved from small shitty companies to bigger better ones through time.

Never really been allowed to or cared to... The only exception being one boss who made us all boozy coffees when we had to work like boxing day and new years and that along with other bits he did made it feel special and less of a drag.

I am allowed in my current place, and have done on one occasion, but that was a particularly quiet day and we took an extended lunch for a couple of hours. I don't generally have the time for a lunch break, let alone the inclination to go out somewhere. Even then, I'd probably rather wait until after work (which we do more often).

In an old job I used to go almost every lunchtime, although thinking back we (was just me and a colleague) probably would've been disciplined had anybody known. :slol:
