My last job was for a train company and they had zero tolerance on alcohol in your system, because of The Railway Act (or whatever it is called) that they had to bring in because of the problems with drinking in the industry...and drunk drivers.

This job I’m not sure to be honest but I don’t think I’d bother anyway.

My previous job, yes. Many a lunchbreak was spent in the bar.

That was the only good thing about it.

Our canteens and bistros sell beer/wine/champagne, but people only tend to drink if a lunchtime buffet's on for an event and there's wine with it

Maybe work would be more relaxing if you were drinking.

Not in my job as I'm 98% of the time on a construction site (often get a drug and alcohol test before working on some sites) but I'm normally on my way home by lunchtime.

I work in an office based on the port of Southampton so there's nothing around us and I'd have to drive home at the end of the day.

Never wanted to, never had the option to.

If I'm flying on business tho you can bet your bottom dollar I'm having pints at the airport and drinks on the plane.

I think I'd resign if I no longer had my Friday lunch time pint to look forward too.

Don't think we're allowed to but I've done it at a couple of staff events. People don't seem that bothered.

I've had the option to in past jobs but wasn't a fan due to reasons others have stated, takes me out of the right mindset.

I think in some client facing roles it can be half the job, I knew a couple of investment bankers who had to hold their drink perfectly since drinking from lunchtime was at times commonplace.

Yeha it seems a lot of the big sales guys from suppliers need to be able to hold their drink and be the life and soul.

Used to have some great nights with the Novell sales guys a few years back. Partner managers were the same too but tended to be more event based rather than pubbing it up

I lack almost any self control so while I am allowed to have a couple pints on my break I wouldn't trust myself to stick to just a couple.
I may have once drank at my desk however :toot:

When I started working at a bank in the early 90s it was normal to have a drink or two at lunchtime; some of the bosses used to lead the way. When I left the bank over twenty years later, anyone having a drink at lunchtime would have been classed as an alcoholic. Times changed.

Unemployed at the mo so I can drink whenever. Rarely do, though.

I mean, I don't see why I couldn't, assuming I went off site to do it, but my 'lunch' break is at 8am, so...

This. Mostly because I work from home about 95% of the time.

Don't think we're allowed to and wouldn't if we could. My mental abilities decrease rapidly after a drink...

It's totally abhorrent and inappropriate to drink when you've got to go back to work. I'll just stick to mainlining heroin at every single toilet and lunch break, yummy.

Rapidly-greying is Mediocre to Average at games :fp:
