I couldn't get it through the event browser in-game, either, had to go to the add-on section of the store proper to download them.

A review is a buyer's guide for the product which a person buys at the time of the review. If I was thinking of buying DriveClub today, the reviews from last year would be completely useless and unhelpful.

With the way games evolve nowadays anyway, I think reviews are becoming pretty pointless anyway - but I guess the gaming sites have to justify their existence somehow.

I think getting the gamers' opinion from forums is a much better way of assessing the quality of a game, than the opinion of one person who played the game prior to launch.

Eurogamer re-reviewed it aswell, says its a major improvement from launch but still don't think its amazing. Gamers in here seem to think its the tits so it must be good.

Edge gave it a 9 too in their latest issue, I think?

I must admit, from what little I have played of the Plus version, I agree with Eurogamer in that it doesn't quite all come together for me.

I can't get on with the handling, and the races just lack a little something, as jostling in the pack is all a little empty and sterile. It's probably better when it's just you on the track, but even then, the fact I can't get to grips with the handling yet lets it down (this is probably just me being crap at driving games in general though). I just feel like the handling is an awkward midway point between arcade and sim. It doesn't feel like an arcade racer to me, and I prefer the PGR games so far.

It doesn't have the kinetic energy or mayhem of the Motorstorm games. It has nothing on Pacific Rim at the moment.

I wish I could play with you guys to see if that adds to the game, but the time different makes it impossible.

It really is, easily my favourite racing game by far. I think what really helps are the load times, you can go from race to race in a few button presses

I think Eurogamer was covering its own back in the "re-review". If you read the text of the original review, it's laughable how bad it is, and they didn't want to back-track too much.

One quote which really annoys me in the Eurogamer re-review is this:

The slightly bland veneer to its world and its racing remains, and beyond the glistening visuals it's still hard to pinpoint what exactly Evolution is doing here that hasn't been done before, and often done quite a bit better.

It's a racing game - you race cars round tracks, and try and beat your competitors. So what if it's been "done before" - what else do they expect a racing game to do?!!!!!

With the handling, there's nothing remotely sim about it and it does my head in when websites refer to it as simcade, just because you have to brake and it has real cars, it doesn't make it a sim. In fact the only thing I'd say is not pure arcade is getting a benefit from taking proper lines through corners. I mean strawberry floating hell I use the handbrake as an anti under steer button in the middle of fast corners Ffs, how is that realistic?

So, what you need to do is go full pelt, chuck it at the apex of the corner and hold the brake right until you get there, then just stamp on the throttle, even dab the handbrake to get rid of the understeer if you need to. For tail happy cars, pump the accelerator out of the corners and they'll stick like a bitch. Seriously it's a piece of piss once you get used to it and you'll be amazed how quick you get and how far up the rankings you'll climb.

Simcade

You must have played with shitty cars on easy or something because that's just not true. The racing is the best thing about the game and why so many of us have kept with it for so long, it's certainly not just for the online :dread:

I think Eurogamer reluctantly re-reviewed the game. I remember general EuroGamer viewers saying it wasn't as bad as their review made it out to be, EuroGamer even referred to this point in the Game of the Year countdown.

"Race drivers don't really care how fast they're going..we keep going faster and faster until we approach that limit of control and that's when we balance ourselves..that's how we make good time."

The closest event accolade I've got to maxing out and then getting platinum is time trial events.

88 left to do :dread:

I guess I could pick the shortest course, fastest car and finish event after on lap, could potentially have it done in 88 mins if it's a sub minute lap.

Completed the latest tour pack, was decent enough, got rather good towards the end with some decent challenges that seemed quite fresh. I love the long races where you have to do the challenges to complete it.

If next month is the last month of DLC I hope they go all out on some bonkers and tough races. I'd love them to do an hour long endurance race where you had to complete challenges on 80% of the laps, would be immense.

Should really add a create your own event mode really.
