Woah woah woah, no it shouldn't. Have you seen how freakin' beautiful it looks on Wii U? Dat Sea, dat sky, dat horizon. :datass:

Just started my Gamecube version - it looks better.

No it doesn't.

He must be streaming at 240p.

The art style is better, what have they done to the Wii U version? Also it's 480p!

Sounds about right.

They are more insular with the franchises than ever, and only seem to want to concentrate on a few of them now.

Sure, we have had Nintendoland, Wii Fit and Woo Sports since 2006, but it is more than offset by the fact we have lost F-Zero, Starfox, 1080 and Wave Race.

The worst Nintendo franchises sell the most.

Reggie said himself that Wii Fit sold 70 million or something stupid like that, which is why adding the trainer to SSMB was a no brainer.

At least they've abandoned all pretence and instead of remaking the same Zelda game, they're remaking the same Zelda game and not pretending it's something new.

Anyone who thinks Wind Waker on Gamecube looks better than the Wii U version needs his eyes testing. And needs to watch this video:

That said, I'm a little disappointed with how Wind Waker looks on Wii U. The early stills suggested a complete graphical overhaul.

Satoru Iwata has not been good for Nintendo, he took over in 2002, Pikmin, Luigi's Mansion were released in 2001, Wind Waker's direction had already been set by then, released in 2002/2003. Super Mario Sunshine was 2002. Animal Crossing was also pre Iwata. I've not liked a Nintendo game since and they've not created new ips of that imaginative kind since. Brain Age, Nintendogs, Wii Sports/Music/etc were all short lived fads.

Nintendo were better under a president who professed to not play videogames or care for them, as opposed to a president who loves them so much he wants everyone to play them and if something appeals to just a small proportion of an audience, like an F-Zero, and doesn't sell 5 million, then they see that as their failure and it's not worth doing. I don't think we've seen another F-Zero because F-Zero GX sold 650,000.

Maybe Hiroshi Yamauchi left them to get on with just making games. Under Iwata, they've become far more hardware focussed. I remember NGC magazine making a fuss over these shorter Nintendo games like Pikmin, Luigi's Mansion and Wind Waker, it was like a rare opinion piece by them, but they were the first and last of the shorter games. Pikmin 2 took 3 years to arrive and was severely bloated, it tried to be a more substantial game that would take 25 hours to finish than a creative one that would take 6 hours. Twilight Princess tried to top Ocarina rather than be its own thing.

One thing I do feel is that they have watered down a lot of their titles and not put as much into them as they used to.

Their attitude was to release a game when the games ready, now it's all about working to a specific deadline.

The new Mario game is a prime example - what are they doing making another 3D mario game into a 2D one?!

It works on the 3DS, but not on Wii U - I expect more!

Also Windwaker HD is nice, but as a launch title to appease the hardcore, not over a year later!

Because making full titles costs a lot of money. Money Nintendo doesn't seem willing to risk on the WiiU. So what do you have? One or two key franchises which require minimal design work and a load of rehashes, which also don't require as much work.

You obviously don't understand that Wind Waker HD is intended to appease fans until the next Zelda is ready. See this video from 2:25 onwards:

I think Nintendo should get a new Wave Race and 1080 out there on the U. There's a gap in the market, with no big water racing games arounds at all really, and SSX seems to have been put on ice for the time being. They could in theory help to build up a more EA-friendly demographic on the U.

I just don't think there is a market for that stuff anymore hence why Nintendo stopped making it, only games with those kind of sports in that sell well are sport compilation exercise games like Wii Sports Resort, Wii Fit and Mario & Sonic.

No one is going to buy a console for a wave race game, sorry.

Maybe not but add it to a couple of other games and it can become a compelling reason to get a Wii U.

I loved 1080 on Gamecube, one of my favourite games. But, it sold like absolute turd then. No way they are going to spend resource on something like that right at the moment. If they can build an install base in the next 18 months it would be nice to have either a Wave Race or 1080 just as a gesture/thanks to the core fans tho'

How do you build an installed based that'll buy that sort of game without giving it that sort of game?

If you want a certain group of people buying your consoles, you have to take the risk and actually make the games they like, and not expect them to come to you with the vague promise of some sort of reward later.

Hey, I'm just saying that 1080 and Wave Race didn't exactly sell Gamecubes to the masses; they are not the right games to make right now. It would have been great if something like Monoliths X was available at or just after launch. That kind of statement might have done well. But alas it wasn't, so right now they need to sell consoles to families and the like. Hopefully some games like X, Bayoneta and others will bring that certain group of gamers to Wii U afterwards, even if it is a second console to go with a PS4 or Bone.

Stuff like Wave Race, 1080 and F-Zero won't sell enough at retail so Nintendo can either let them die or resurrect those franchises on the Eshop as £10-15 downloadable games. Why not get someone like Vector Unit to make a small Wave Race 2014 for release next summer? A HD 2D Metroid by Drinkbox?
Nintendo are in the strange position of being lambasted for not producing more original games the same people are also clamouring for the return of old franchises. Bringing back some of the older games as downloadables while focusing on creating new IP for retail release in an attempt to appeal to new customers might strike a better balance than going back to the Mario well so often.

I'm all for new IPs, but my preference is for Retro Studios to tackle a traditionally western-dominated genre or game type, and put that unique Retro/Nintendo spin on it. Games like W101 don't really appeal to me. :(
