Yes I really liked the single player story mode and as the game looks to be just a port of the wii u version they should have had time to create a single player mode.

Yoshi getting delayed is making 2018 look like a bit of a quiet year from Nintendo.

I still don’t think it’s an awful year.

There’s a lot of variety there:

Kirby
Labo
Mario Tennis
Pokemon
Mario Party
Smash

Plus some Wii U ports in DK, Hyrule Warriors, Bayonetta and Captain Toad and some decent third party games like Fortnite, Crash, South Park, Dark Souls and Octopath Traveler.

I think it’s probably missing a big first party hitter earlier in the year especially as Pokemon and Smash both hit at the end of the year.

There’s no doubt it’s nowhere near the standard of the first year though.

I wouldn't say awful. Just not that good. They have variety but no stand out games bar Smash, and that is mainly past content, with slight tweaks and very few additions from the looks of things.

For me personally. I wanted Kirby to play with the missus. It was an alright game.
labo? Lol.
Mario Tennis, still really unsure on it, don't like all the power nonsense.
Pokemon, I think not.
Smash, as I said in the last paragraph.

The Switch certainly isn't having an awful year, just not that great. First half has been fairly decent, it certainly tails off till Pokémon and Smash launch later in the year though.

Saying that it's not like I've been overly keen on what they've released in the first half of the year, currently I've only got Crash and Octopath on order till Pokémon in November. This is good in a way as it'll give me plenty of time to finish my other games and maybe try some more indie games but it does seem a little light. Obviously Dark Souls will be out at some point in the summer but we have no idea when.

Nintendo have announced an E3 sale

While it doesn't give details, it starts at 14:00 BST tomorrow and includes over 40 games across the Switch, 3DS, and WiiU. Looking at the highlights give Zelda, Mario, Splatoon, Super Smash Bros., Fire Emblem, and even Street Fighter games. The image says up to 50% off, so I hope there's some decent discounts.

Daemon x Machina is next up on the Treehouse, so if you want to see some mech action, tune in.

I randomly tuned in and was surprised to see this. I've been checking Treehouse sporadically since it started, and have caught Smash, XC2 Challenges, Super
Mario Party and Octopath Traveler. Have I missed anything interesting? They haven't shown Fire Emblem or announced any 3DS games have they?

Iv'e not been one for mech games, but this looks like it could be an exception for me. The art style looks really nice and combat seems more versatile than other similar types of experiences.

I also like how your arsenal gets displayed in this large hangar space. Pleasantly surprised, cheers for the heads up.

They showed off some Hollow Knight, but nothing new has been announced and Fire Emblem hasn't shown yet. There was also the Donkey Kong Adventure for Mario and Rabbids shown.

I was a decent showing for Nintendo, if a little bit disappointing as while Smash looked amazing, they should've been two separate directs, 1 for Smash the other for game reveals.
Compared to last year the Switch received a big exclusive title for each month, but this year bar Mario Tennis and Octopath traveller this summer their next big game is Pokemon in mid November and Smash in December.

They didn't say what was next. Are they going to disappoint with more Smash, or this something actually new?
Or is it the end for today?

Why am I not surprised? They've done it.
At least with Zelda you actually had more than just superficial stuff to show!

Only just caught up spoiler free. Bit confused at people saying it's a weak line up this year? I get that there's not the big hitters in some ways (I know I thought I was getting my proper Pokemon) but there's absolutely loads to play when you factor in the E-Shop. Heck, half my playtime is on Indies on the Switch.

I kinda went into this E3 with quite low expectations as it was quite clear they had announced all their big games for 2018 and they had made it clear they were going to focus on Smash, and we'll....That's what we got. Fortnite would have been a huge announcement if it wasn't spoiled.

Nintendo did something really clever with the new Smash, and some of the returning character models look badass. Wish there was more new characters but I'm still pumped for the game. I honestly gasped that Snake was back.

It was an okay E3, but one that compares badly to some real hard hitters in recent years. People comparing it 2008?! Get out of here...

On reflection is wasn't as bad as 2008 (I thought I'd chip in as I think I made the comparison after it had finished), considering that I'm not a Smash fan there was very little there for me personally, there wasn't a load that got my interest in the first 15 either. I actually felt very disappointed after it had finished, hence my comparison to the 2008 E3 performance from Nintendo.

When did Nintendo make it clear they were focusing on Smash? After the direct? Sorry, but that was a poor showing. Like I said to Tomous, Nintendo has a semi-decent line up of games, but for me personally there is very little I'm interested in.

It's easy to see why people are saying it's a weak line-up, or at least why the Direct was bad. It starts, of course, with the wording of the two plan announcements.

Last year they said "for a look at Nintendo Switch games for 2017, including Super Mario Odyssey"
This year? "a look at Nintendo Switch titles for 2018, including the recently announced Super Smash Bros."

It's roughly the same wording with exactly the same meaning. How long of a focus did we get for Odyssey? Three minutes. It was 25 for Smash Bros., and the comments I've seen are that even those who were looking forward to seeing Smash had started to burn out on it from the amount of time spent on it.

Then there's the fact at least twenty games - some of which could have had a minute spent on them and were what some people were wanting to see within the Direct - were squashed into a two and a half minute sizzle reel. There were at least some good games featured, but it's mostly the burnout from Smash that sours it for most.

This was the big problem with the Direct, there were some very good games in there but they were reduced to sizzle reel status to take athe deepest of dives on Smash. It would have been a much better Direct of some of those games had been given a minute to two of exposition each and the Smash stuff was reduced to the headline: Every character ever, Ridley, Daisy, Release Date. The problem with the way it was presented is it left a bad taste in everyones mouth, now people are looking at Nintendo in a negative light and cant see the genuinely good stuff that was in the Direct because a giant Smash boulder was dropped on everything.

The best description of the direct I saw was a comment over at Eurogamer, where someone described it as a "dramatic reading of some patch notes". Which is pretty much what it was.
