They really shouldn't have bothed with the Direct. Not only would it have given them forty-five minutes extra to work with in the Treehouse, they could easily have done the announcements there. And considering there was also the tournament, it would have been better to provide some variety. This really felt like having a Direct just for having one.

They don't need 45 minutes extra for Treehouse, it has loads of time.

They needed a Direct, just to only do 10 minutes on Smash and finish it after 25 mins.

Agreed! Honestly 25 minutes is pretty much the perfect length, the smash stuff just dragged.

After the character announcement, I kinda got bored of Smash. Most of the stuff they were showing may as well have been kept for the treehouse. More so as it was on straight after. It's not as if I'm not a fan of Smash either. I love it.

I think that was the worst thing about the decision. I love Smash too, and I was getting bored. If it was losing the Smash fans too, it clearly wasn’t a good idea.

I think once they’d confirmed the characters, they should have done abit on stages and mechanics and then into the Ridley reveal. Saved the deep dive on individual character changes for Treehouse.

At this rate they'll be overtaking the total time Breath of the Wild was featured in 2016.

If you really want to track it, Breath of the Wild was shown for 322 minutes total. Smash Ultimate is currently on 270.

Just before the Xenoblade DLC started the Nintendo guy went to the Switch menu by mistake; wonder if there was any secrets in the menu. Been trying to go back to check but can’t!

We've still got the best part of 2 days of tree house streams to go as well haven't we?

Anyway, anything new been announced on the tree house streams? I can hope!

Yup. Rest of today and all of tomorrow. Nothing new yet, but I feel there has to be something.

As much as I agree a conference may be a good idea for next year, the current format still works well; whether focusing on two main titles like this year or several more across both the direct and treehouse live, its just easily more efficient and cost effective for Nintendo.

I'm watching the livestream on youtube now and the chat is a fiercely crackling dumpster fire.
