The main problem with Nintendo's near-term-only strategy is that is always feels like there's bugger all coming out. E3 for Sony and MS' events always have a, "
Hey, look at what you've got to look forward to next year, hopefully," kinda vibe, so even if this year's offerings are sub-par, there's always hope for next year. Nintendo lost that a while ago. I mean, yeah, we got wind of Skyward Sword, BotW and Metroid Prime 4 much further in advance, but those were like rare gifts to fans, not really what you'd call expected - and SS's first reveal with the Fi concept art was at a round-table, not during their show.
Twilight Princess might've released years after its reveal, and in a very different state, but hot damn, that was the best reveal.
