But the choice is not Sony's to make on how many subscriptions we have. I mean I have Now TV, Netflix and Amazon Instant Video also on my PS4 along with PS+.

The downside to a subscription model with the current games available (to me) is that they're games that you probably want to keep for ages. I'm only willing to sign up to a subscription model if it's offering me new games regularly and ends up being cheaper than just buying the things - it's why I rent from Boomerang.

Although the current price is negates that. Even if you plan on keeping your BF4 or Fifa all year until the next one, £20 is cheaper than buying either, which is why I don't really get how this works out in their favour.

I know this much: I currently have neither BF4 nor FIFA 14. And EA didn't get any of my money. But they could have had £20 of my money if I'd had access to this service.

Looks like a good offer. Like others have said, though, it may depend on at what stage the titles are hitting the service. EA does annual updates on most of its big games - so if they're landing on EA Access just a month before the new titles come out, it could either hit new sales (BF5, FIFA 15), or people will ignore the service because it doesn't have the latest games.

(Probably somewhere between the two - extended life for BF4, slightly fewer people rushing to play BF5. Either way, EA wins, I guess.)

Either way, I think it looks like a good service. I'd take it if I was a Boner, definitely.

I'll be very interested to see just how long the wait for the newest titles actually is...

If you don't care about waiting for stuff (and I increasingly don't) then this service could be an absolute no brainer. Even if you only play 1 EA title a year you're still saving yourself over £20 on average.

In fact if you timed it correctly, you could buy FIFA 15 on disc when it's released & then sell it for almost full value before it appears on this EA Access. But again, the question is when...

Agreed. It won't make me get an Xbox, though, purely because I'm not a big fan of EA games.

PS+ on the other hand offers me loads of games on a variety of formats. If Xbox ends up with something similar it would tempt me, even though I've told myself I won't buy any more consoles.

I think this sums up who EA may be initially targeting. It's not their most hardcore fans who have to buy FIFA & Battlefield at launch, but those gamers who'd quite like their games at this price. It effectively makes money from people who are not already giving them money.

Photek, I'm being realistic. This means no more EA games on Games with Gold because they would far rather have you paying £20/year to them directly than paying significantly less via Microsoft, and I would also expect the Vault to be mostly old* games since I don't think EA wants to kill off the cashflow from the people who buy FIFA/Madden day one every year. I'll also be genuinely surprised if any EA games show up on PS+ from now on.

I also expect them to introduce a version for PC, since it's prime Origin boosting material, and I wouldn't be too surprised if Sony U-turns on their decision fairly quickly.

*for newgen games.

I'd expect a couple of weeks after the end of the respective season. So, Madden a couple of weeks after the Superbowl and FIFA after the Champions League final. I'll be genuinely surprised if FIFA 15 shows up before CEX et al start paying sub-£20 for it.

For the non-sports games, I'd expect 9 to 18 months, depending on how well they sell.

Wrong call Sony :dread:

This stance will change if fans make enough noise/Sony see drop in EA game sales. /bold prediction :slol:

I not saying you're wrong but you instantly looked at the negative side Delu, like always.

That Sony quote sounds like they cant do anything about it (MS and EA might have an exclusive agreement)rather than it was a decision taken. I reckon in a couple of years it'll be on PS4. I can't see either Sony nor MS not wanting another subscription service, why should they care? Both have Now TV, Netflix and Amazon and im sure they didnt think about value to customer when getting the apps up and running. It's merely limiting the customer.

Whats going on with EA and MS anyways? Titanfall exclusive to xbox on console, FIFA 14 free with Xbox One on launch and now this...I wonder who's paying who for all of that?

Do you really wonder? I'd imagine it's pretty obvious.

I'm gonna buy PS4 Pro Evo in protest. Better game anyway :slol:

To me it read like Sony were offered it and turned it down. Yes PS has other sub based services but none of those sell games. Also they have PS Now to think of and that would make three gaming subs on one platform if EA Access was on it too.

It's very surprising Sony have been so stern in their comment. Seems to indicate they're not happy with EA about something. Even if they know something we don't (it's going to be a service mostly made up of old games) it's still unusual for them to basically say 'this thing's gooseberry fool, we don't want it' about one of the biggest third party publishers on the system.

Surely you mean download it when free on PSN in protest? I've "bought" the PS3 PES 2014 as part of PSN+ on the PS3 but doubt I'll ever download it.

Yes?

I'd say EA Access is better VFM than PlayStation Now to be honest.

@DH - annoyingly, I bought it for £14 about a month before it was on Plus. The PS3 one was ok - terrible, terrible UI, but it plays a great game of football. I actually probably will buy the PS4 version.

Sorry for derailing.

Agreed, PSNow is going to be a huge flop with the pricing model they have. It's just ridiculous.

Well, yes, I guess MS are paying EA but this is mutually beneficial to an extent so maybe its not that much.

I had no idea the pricing model had been set.
