So: $60 a year to EA right off the bat. So if you don't buy more than one EA game yearly, they've already broken even, and I guess they'd have a healthy stock of microtransactions in all titles to pump up those profit margins?
Tell ya what though: Very good odds that EA just killed retail.

Meh! I'm boycotting EA anyway after the fiasco of Battlefield 4, Sim City 4 and Titanfall on PC. Awful company.

I'm actually quite tempted by this. Assuming the library of games grows substantially, it could work out being quite reasonable. I'm always put off buying yearly updates of sports titles, but with this I wouldn't need to.

The Peter Moore and Microsoft relationship is very strong and is what makes this possible.
The deal, if you like the games, is actually really decent providing you can subscribe for a month at a time. Battlefield 4 plus a sports game plus a puzzle game. You can stop subscribing when you've completed the games they have, but if they have a bigger collection then it is something you might want to stay subscribed to. A very interesting development. If it takes of I wouldn't be surprised to see Ubisoft follow suit.

So will this only be for select games (ie. pretty useless) or a full service which gives you access to every new EA game after it comes out of beta? I can't really see them doing the latter, but it would be truly superb value if they did. £60 a year... I'd be all over that.

Today, EA revealed EA Access, an Xbox One-exclusive subscription service that grants players access to EA's so-called Vault.
Subscribing to EA Access will cost $4.99 a month (or $29.99 a year), and since the program is technically in beta, only four games will initially be available: FIFA 14, Madden NFL 25, Peggle 2, and Battlefield 4, "with more titles being added soon."
Play First – Membership in EA Access lets you experience trials of new EA games up to five days before the release date.* It starts with Madden NFL 15, NHL 15, FIFA 15, NBA LIVE 15, and Dragon Age: Inquisition, but more are on the way. If you decide to buy the game, your progress will carry over so you can pick up right where you left off.
Additionally, EA Access will also net subscribers 10 percent discounts on all EA digital content, which includes full games and DLC, as well as access to trials of new EA games nearly a week before they come out (with saves that copy over to the final game, should you choose to purchase it later). Games that will be eligible for early access and save copy-over are Madden NFL 15, NHL 15, FIFA 15, NBA Live 15, and Dragon Age: Inquisition.
Memberships can be purchased on Xbox Live, and will also be available at retail stores like GameStop and online destinations like Amazon. The subscription service will launch "soon," according to EA, and will be available in North America and Europe.

I suspect this will prove to be the successor to the EA Sports Season Ticket mixed in with PlayStation Plus's Instant Games Collection. As in, the games with full access would be all old games (for a given value of old, since we are talking newgen versions) and will be accessible for as long as you keep your sub up, with potential rotations of availability (although anyone who "buys" the games getting rotated out keeping them as long as the subscription lasts). That said, for new games, you'll only get the five day pre-release trial until at the very earliest six months after release when they go into the Vault.
Ultimately, it's a better deal than the Season Ticket (which only did the pre-release trials), but I suspect people will be very disappointed when it turns out that this won't give them half price FIFA/Madden/Battlefield etc. I'll also be genuinely surprised if this remains Xbone exclusive for long, this sort of thing would be an excellent idea to increase Origin useage.

Good deal and a bit of a coup for Xbox.
Is there a minimum duration you can sign up for, though? I'd imagine that for single player games, it could be easily abused.
And no doubt they'll still try to get you to pay for nonsense like BF Premium.

It seems like one of those things that could be good but I would be a little worried about how much content will be accessible at any given time and how long will user have access to games they are playing?

Ah, I didn't read the annual charge after the monthly one. No chance of what I was hoping for, at £30 a year! But that's so little that the perks and savings make it worth the outlay anyway!
