Does a game really have to be revolutionary to be a 10? Galaxy 2 is an exquisitely crafted videogame and completely worthy of a perfect score.

There are loads of reasons a game can be worthy of a 10.

I don't think that it does which is why I'd say that 3D World is the best 3D Mario platformer as it has its own new gameplay while reviving a lot of great ideas from 64, Sunshine and the Galaxies.

Wasn't that originally Edge's definition of a 10? It explains why we got so few over more than a decade of reviews.

They then changed it to something like "10=ten" I think.

So yeah, I agree, in that sense then Galaxy 2 is worthy of such a score. It is, as you say, perfectly crafted and is almost free of any flaws.

I remember Rik constantly claiming it was an expansion pack and being a little miffed when it got that score.

As much as I love video games, there's not a single one that can think of that is absolutely flawless.

I'm starting to think it's better to wait on word of mouth than listening to professional reviews which are usually done with tight play time restrictions.

This issue's scores really highlight how much of a job Microsoft have on their hands. Two massive PS4 exclusives scoring 9 each, and Nintendo scoring a 10 for Switch straight off the bat. Meanwhile, Xbox One has.... what exactly? To be fair, Halo Wars 2 probably just missed this issue, but after that it looks pretty barren. Those two high profile cancellations are really costing them.

Agreed, I think you can add Gravity Rush 2 and Yakuza 0 to the strong start for PS4, if Nier turns out to be an 80+ game, it's will make for an even more impressive start to the year.
I thought Spencer was all about the games, perhaps he's being hamstrung by his superiors outside of the game division? It's not a good state of affairs, robust competition usually means a better deal for the consumer.

Xbox One is probably so lacklustre because so much attention will have turned to the new console already. It's supposed to be here in, what, less than 10 months?

I've honestly got no idea what big exclusives are coming out for the Xbox One this year other than Halo Wars 2.

There's alot now riding on the shoulders of Crackdown3 and Sea of Thieves but Microsoft's current exclusive lineup is pitiful.

Yeah, I suspect that a far chunk of development resource is being placed on the Scorpio. I'd expect a November launch so it's under nine months away :o :) .

The Scorpio itself isn't getting any exclusives though, is it?

I believe that MS has said that there wouldn't be exclusives... but I wonder if things have moved on since then. The market has changed and we're nearly a year further down the line; I can imagine that MS will want to display the significant technical edge that the Scorpio will have.

I could see that, as an example, Crackdown 3 will launch on both XBO and Scorpio; but the Scorpio version will look and perform substantially better.

Crackdown 3
Sea of Thieves
Phantom Dust
State of Decay 2

So far as confirmed retail goes, that's it. :dread:

Pretty sure there will be a Forza game and perhaps another Halo.

I'd imagine we will see more games at E3.
