Eight Days: Why did they cancel this (vid inside)?

Shamelessly stolen from NeoGAF but I'm so glad I did!

Eight Days concept reel of some bloke taking cover. So awesome! Me hopes this is still sitting somewhere in Sonyland primed and ready to be used in some other game.

Yeah it looks like a clone of Stranglehold and that flopped so there's a possible reason.

He did. That's why they cancelled it.

I don't think it was ever a real game (they might have been planning to make it but I don't they got far). What we saw was just a mock up used to excite hype for Sony.

The video has been posted up on GameTrailers.com but it's not so good quality. You can still clearly see how it works though.

I tried to embed the video by looking at how others did it (Sarge's recent Left4Dead GT.com vid has just the numbers) but for some reason it says it's not available, yet I'm watching it right now via GT.com! See below :evil:

You can't embed user movies.

It was probably down to the mullet. It's always the mullet.

The newly surfaced video (the one of the guy darting around textureless walls, which I assume is what Cooldawn is trying to show) is pretty cool, but it just looks like a tech demo for how to build decent cover mechanics. The actual premise of the game sounded fairly shaky though, and coming from the team behind The Getaway, it's no surprise it was canned.

The tech demo does look good but it took well over two years to get to that point so I assume the game was becoming a bit of a money pit.
