Posteither OT or AFH: music shops...
by AerisHime » Mon Dec 22, 2008 5:14 pm

Hey boys and girls,

I am well aware that this thread might also belong in the ask for help forums, but since it's off topic, too, i'll just put it here for now. :)

Anyway, I was wondering if any of you music players know good shops for instruments and gear in Londinium? I'm still planning on getting myself a Banjo sometime soonish... also I have heard that these shops are great places to find a band :)

Thanks!

Right in the foulest, busiest, smelliest part of central London. Get out of Tottenham Court Road tube, walk a little way down Charing Cross Road (in the direction of the bookshops), and there's a little alley called Denmark Street where they've got loads of musical instrument shops.

I'd like to second Denmark st/ around that area, you could spend all day looking at awesome instruments if you wanted.

I remember going to a music shop and playing a £1,200 electric double bass.

It was gorgeous.

Banjitar, what a strawberry floating awesome instrument. A good shop to check out is http://www.andybanjo.com/, the actual shop is in Kent but you can view most of their wares online. Unfortunately I'm not familiar with London-based music shops so I can't help you on that front. If you want to chat about banjos though I can do that till the break of dawn.

Didn't know you play the banjo. You could come around and show me all the tricks... I have a knack with instruments, but with help it always goes a bit easier.

(are we still talking about the actual musical instrument here?) :fp:

on that note: the facepalm shortcut should be "palm" or something. I keep thinking of something else when typing it... after all, just one letter is missing there.

I am incredibly poor with the blasted thing. Just don't have the patience to devote so much time to a single activity. But I am enthusiastic and have a good knowledge of the various techniques and musicians, plus I just love the sound it makes.

Oh and Denster, you'd be surprised how much the ladies love a man who's got good finger dexterity.

Well, I might be a bit rusty, but I'm sure I can remember how to finger the G-String quite well. ;)
