There's a pretty steep learning/difficulty curve at the start so be ready for that. If you try to go off and do your own thing early the world will tear you apart mercilessly.

Thanks, Laga - yeah, I've read that the start is pretty tough. I have set the difficulty as "easy", though :shifty: - I think the difficulty levels may have been added as part of the update patch.

I've just met Duras and we're gonna travel to a "safe area".

Edit: I'm in Goliet... time to explore! The graphics are great; the light and shadow is well done.

I've played the opening two to two-and-a-half hours and I'm enjoying it! I've picked up a "murder investigation" task from Duras and I'm traveling round the area to speak to five possible suspects. I've already learnt that, this early in the game and with a pipe as a weapon, I'm pretty weak against most dangers and enemies so I'm having to skirt around the countryside to avoid them. It's good fun and the graphics are surprisingly impressive; and there is real depth and height to the landscape.

Well, I never played too much of Elex and it still stands in my "try again soon" pile. It was tough and a bit janky but I liked the ideas and the environments.

But Elex II is on the way! It's due to release later this year; specific date TBC.

> Engage in fluid close and ranged combat with a massively improved control system

> Experience a story where your actions have consequences, immersing you in a world of moral decisions

I'm glad the game is gaining a sequel and I'm keen to discover more info.

Edit:

Pretty wild trailer. All seemingly CGI rather than gameplay but makes me want to keep tabs on the game.

...wow, the song in that trailer is awesome. I've checked it out and it's an original song, "Elex", by Jonathan Davis, the lead singer of Korn. I'm not too familiar with their stuff but this track rocks!

This is cool - I've only played a few hours of Elex, the learning curve is vicious and really I need to start over knowing how the game works a bit better, but it seemed really good and was very memorable just from those few hours.

How is the first game? I've always been curious about it as it looked to have an old school vibe.

Alas, Gem, I've (surprise!) not played too much of it. I liked what I did try; it was technically a tad clunky but the action was fun. Pretty tough when starting out, too. It's another game in my backlog (which is now approaching epic proportions).

...to be honest unless reviews come out saying it's a lot more accessible than the first game, I don't think I can justify getting this when I have the first game pretty much all still to play!

Definitely old school with a very steep learning curve and some really great world building. I've only played a few hours though myself (not yet been back since my last post in this thread).

Well, the game is out but I think that in terms of visibility it has been totally lost amongst heavy-hitters launching like Forbidden West, Elden Ring and Gran Turismo 7. I've checked out a few reviews on YouTube and the general feel seems to be that it's more of Elex with a bit of fine tuning. It looks a little last-gen and it's still as clunky as ever in places, although fans tend to look beyond that and appreciate the range of environments and depth of gameplay.

I'd like to try it but I need to go back and play the original game first, I think.
