Different viewpoints... which is fair enough. I do wonder though, Blue Eyes, if the "strawberry floating royalist media" is the same source of many of the things that has helped to form your opinion that the guy is "rotten to the core"? That would seem quite a juxtaposition.

Quite ironic, I agree. Thing is I'm not exactly sure I remember where I heard this stuff about him but I've no doubt it's true and he is never criticised for it.

I'm not sure people are fawning over him "because nationalism". The media are obsessed with the royal family regardless of what the news is, be it Kate's dress, a photo of Charlotte or the Queen having a cold. Not sure this is any different in that respect.

He's carried out many diplomatic engagements that affect international trade and foreign relations for the country, which in turn affects the livelihoods of the people who are reading the news. Makes sense to pay attention to it, even as a staunch republican.

So now we need him in the EU negotiations he is stepping down.

Can't win the lottery if you don't buy a ticket.
You can buy the lottery if you do buy a ticket.
That's basically an infinite increase in your chances from 0%

I'm pretty sure I dreamt last night that I read a retrospective on the Queen's 100+ year rule or something and that she had died, so this thread confused me.
