Hey, so when I've got my speakers plugged into my PC there is a constant buzzing noise. My monitor has built in speakers, so I plugged that into my soundcard instead of my external speakers, and there is no interference. What do you think is causing the buzz? Obviously I'd prefer to use my speakers, since the monitor speakers aren't of great quality.

Your purple prose just gives you away (I had to look that up, I always thought it was "your pepper pots just gave you away" :lol: ).

wat

EMI can be caused by a few things:

* Audio cables crossing over with power cables
* Not properly shielded cables (crap cables)
* Faulty cable connections/jacks
* Faults in the cable
* Nearby RF requipment like phones/router
* Hum coming from the mains which you will most likely be unable to fix.
* EMI from internal components that gets picked up by poorly shielded sound card (nearly always on board sound chips)

I would suggest replacing the cable between you speakers and computer if at all possible. This is most like a stereo 1/8" male to male TRS cable or stereo 1/8" male to twin (left and right) phono/RCA cable.

The best consumer-oriented affordable cables I have found in the shops are JVC (although I have only bought one before discovering the Internets it has survived many years of use) although Neutrik jacks and van damme cable is the pro gooseberry fool, but you don't need that.

Generally look for thicker leads with gold-plated connections (this does not necessarily indicate better quality but is often the case) and heavy duty moulded connectors with good relief on the cable (the spongy/springy part). Metal connections are great for durability, but often unnecessarily expensive.

Audiospares on eBay are good:

they also have a shop:

That cable's only £3. Although be sure 1.2m is long enough for you. Prepare to be majorly ripped off on the high street for better cables though.

Unfortunately the noise coming from your speaker set could be an inherent flaw in it's circuitry / power design in which case there would be nothing you can do.
