I downloaded it on Sunday and after one listen through I burned a disc. Haven't gave it another blast yet.
In terms of "catchy" songs it's not great and it's not very listenable, like a bizarre set of hilarious rants and grim stories all welded to pretty generic and unremarkable beats/choruses.

But like everything he's done, there's a sense that he's simply venting his frustrations in a really vicious, exaggerated and macabre fashion. Personally, I thought the whole thing was incredibly interesting and very funny but it's also a bit lacking a little bit musically.

what.

Yeah, it wasn't based on a real experience but rather it's a story of some hyped up traumatic experience that sees him hang himself in his bedroom only for his abusive step-father to say he deserved it. Black humour at its darkest.

"I was born with a dick in my brain
Yea strawberry floated in the head
My step-father said that I sucked in the bed
'Til one night he snuck in and said
We're going out back, I want my dick sucked in the shed
"Can't we just play with Teddy Ruxpin instead?"
After I strawberry float you in the butt, get some head
Bust a nut, get some rest
The next day my mother said, "I don't know what the strawberry float's up with this kid"
The bastard won't even eat nothing he scared
He just hung himself in the bedroom he's dead
Jeffrey don't let that strawberry floater get you upset
Go in there stick a strawberry floating cigarette to his neck
I bet you he's faking it
I bet you, I'll bet he prolly wants to see how upset you would get
I'll go handle this of course unless you object
Ah, go strawberry float his brains out if any is left in his head
"

He wanted Amy on the album, but she said no.

Surely she said no no no?

So I copped this last night.

Over all the album is nice mayne, way better than I was expecting it to be after the wackness that Encore was.

The only problem is that I was listening to the album like yeah, Ems still sick with it. Then the last song Underground has Em spitting with his regular voice and it sounds like 100x better. If he done the whole album with his regular voice it would have been way sicker. But yeah, he still got a sick flow and good word play and ill rhyme schemes. Dre's production is solid through the whole thing (Old Times Sake, Hello = dope).

Albums like a 7.5/10

Now I can't wait to hear what Relapse 2 sounds like, I was expecting this one to be gooseberry fool and wasn't really checking for it, but Em took it back to Slim Shady LP.

Which is a shame don't you think? He is so huge he could do anythign and present some sort of decent message instead of lots of serial killer tracks. Still, I'm going to really quickly rate them one by one...

Dr West - skit

3AM - Great song, really dark and paves the way for the rest of the album, if you didn't know this was a 'Slim Shady' album you do now. 7.5/10

My Mom - Catchy, but are we really still talking about his mother. This should have been bumped further up the album to sort of hide it... 5/10

Insane - Crazy lyrics, it's around this stage I gave up hoping for some of revelationary track that would blow my mind. 3/10

Bagpipes from Bagdad - About Mariah Carey, good beat and quite catchy. Lyrics stay up, pretty good. 7/10

Hello - I'd have put this earlier into the album, not a bad song, nothing major either though. 6.5/10

Tanya - skit

Same Song and Dance - This is beautifully dark and told from the perspective of a serial killer, great chorus, my most listened to on the album along with 3AM 8/10

We Made You - The inevitable first single track, weak compared to the others. 5/10

Medicine Ball - Not bad... 5/10

Paul - skit

Stay Wide Awake - Another serial killer track, bleh. Still one of the better ones. 7/10

Old Times Sake - I feel like I've heard this all before, but it doesn't stop it being decent. 6/10

Must be The Ganja - Catchy a little, nothing major. 6/10

Deja Vu - Pretty good, not the best way to mention his old fallen friend Proof, and he seems to have some issues but hey, it's entertainment isn't it? :/ 7.5/10

Beautiful - I can see some people liking this a lot, I didn't really, but the chorus was ok. 7/10

Crack a Bottle - Average. 6/10

Underground - Chorus feels pretty epic, and his normal voice, shows what the album could have been if he didn't go all retro on us. 7.5/10

Nah I don't think it's a shame. Fans have been wanting Em to go back to that Slim Shady gooseberry fool for ages now. The albums called Relapse and he said it was more Slim Shady, so this is exactly what I wanted really. Relapse is meant to be for the people who liked Slim Shady, Relapse 2 is meant to be more Marshall Mathers and for everyone.

Also, as far as mainstream rap albums go this is one of the better releases in a long time mayne and is above average IMO.

Seen the 3AM vid? Gruesome. Beautiful is the next single, good choice as it's quite like Sing For The Moment. Underground is amazing lyrically, those lines about fight Freddy Kruger etc especially. Medicine Ball is one of the best with some of the smartest lines when detailing serial killers in order and so forth. I'm glad We Made You is the only 'silly' song here, Shady does the horrorcore thing like no other.

I'd agree with the above other albums point too, but I'm not sure if it's to do with Eminem as much as it is there's no competition really, wordplay wise nobody can touch him atm, that I know about anyway.

Yeah, I like the Slim Shady sorta gooseberry fool and Relapse is pretty much what I wanted. I'm glad he dropped this one first to be honest, now he got people anticipating his next gooseberry fool, hopefully Relpase 2 = Marshall Mathers LP.

Yeah he ODs with the horrocore.

 @ him rapping as Christopher Reeves and still killing it.

If you like Horrocore you really need to check The Gravediggaz if you ain't already mayne.

I like it, reminds me very much of his first album. Some good stuff.

Gave Hannibal Lectar a nectarine and sat him in the strawberry floating fruit and vegetable section, gave him a lecture. Quality.
