If the prices are affordable (and with the beer tokens/credit you get on keg returns it's not as bad as it seems) and you drink at home it's a must!

Everything I've had on it, and there's a great range, is far better than what you get in pubs/cans/bottles.

I've got the older machine. The main advantage of the new machine is the variable temperature but this only really needed if you are drinking lots of Pale Ales/IPAs (non-lagers) which are best served a few degrees higher than standard 3 degress.

I read recently they are introducing some sort of subscription/hire offer that might be worth looking at.

Heh, I was just going to bump this thread myself, partly because of the Brewdog Lost news. Ordered one keg myself. The bundle is a good deal, but I really don’t want any more glasses at the moment, and I did the spring offer of ordering six kegs before April, so I get 15% off all kegs until June anyway. I want to see if I like it before I order more!

I’ve tried both the Camden kegs. I liked the Hells, as it’s quite similar to the much-missed Schneider’s. The Pale was initially a little too bitter, but I quickly adjusted to it, and it’s one I’d buy again.

But the main reason I was going to bump the thread is because I’ve just tried Vocation Life & Death for the first time. Oh my god. This might be the one I’ve been looking for all my life. After a bit of trepidation when the aroma reminded me of soapy IPAs that I’ve disliked in the past, I took a sip and it was a sweet and fruity explosion. Definitely adding to future orders. Typical that it’s one of the most expensive kegs!

Preezy, I’d echo Ste - if it’s affordable to you, it’s a luxury worth paying for. I’ve got the original version. The Pro is far from essential - not really worth upgrading for, but as it’s the latest design, might be a good bet for future spare parts availability etc. The cost of the machine is soon dwarfed by the kegs anyway! The starter bundles are currently great offers. Be aware that machine stocks can get low when the weather turns hot and everyone wants one!

Actually one thing that might be worth considering when deciding what machine to order heading into the summer is that the newer machine is better at keeping the kegs at the lower temperature on those odd occasions it gets over 30 degrees. Another thing on the price of kegs, I imagine it's a bit like Dominoes in that I doubt many people are regularly buying kegs at the RRP.

My beer glass collection is out of control! Just storing them in random places now.

Yes, the Life and Death is great - potent though! Probably last few mornings I've not felt so great is when I've overdone it on that - but hard not to when it's so nice.

Vocation as a brewery seem quite good. Like to see more from them.

Rinks - have you had the Innis & Gunn?

Yes, really liked the Innis & Gunn. But not long after came the Oktoberfest kegs, and they were so good, that’s all I wanted for a while.

I expect to have more I&G this summer.

I think Vocation's can design is properly wanky but it is very good!

The Lost keg has already been delivered, and is cooling in the fridge! No golden sticker, unfortunately, but a couple of beer mats were chucked in.

Also got a keg of Ghost Ship, which I've not had before.

Yeah, it's definitely not cheap, unless you compare it to pub prices.

Space is another consideration in choosing which version. The Pro is larger (as in the drink), so might not be good for placing beneath wall cupboards. The original design is smaller (a bit) but the doors open out sideways, so you need a bit of space to allow for that. It's not daft huge though (no context).

Made some homebrew chocolate stout earlier in the year and had some of it last weekend. It's pretty nice, although it does taste like homebrew but then it could just be because I know it is, and to someone else it would taste like something from a can.

No pressure at all here, but they’ve just launched a new referral code that gets you £20 off the already-discounted machines (and I would get £30 in credit).

That would make the cheapest bundle £179, which would get you the Perfect Draft machine (original), a keg worth around £35, a couple of matching pint glasses and a bar runner. Bear in mind I paid £250 for just the machine a couple of years ago (and I don’t regret that!). It’s the best price I’ve seen and is a heck of a bargain, if you’re still tempted.

Obviously open to anyone else who is reading this too!

I noticed today that Brewdog has now launched a beer for gamers, entitled "ARCADE MADE - Coin Operated: Fiercely defiant and independent", coming in at a whopping £4 a 440ml can. Strong though at 8%, so probably isn't going to do your lap times much good...

Had a can of Schöfferhofer Hefeweizen grapefruit beer yesterday, was bloody delicious and I'm normally a big fan of citrusy beers.

If they sell it in the UK you should try a Stiegl Radler Grapefruit. It's a nice, tasty, low ABV beverage. I put some tequila and lime in mine sometimes to make a Paloma.

I think it's funny how the term radler is being used in the UK now. Presumably it's to combat some perceived stigma of ordering a shandy.

"Radler pants". It's not the same....

Radler bladder, maybe.
