Sounds good. I'd kill to get a pint for £3.20!

I've not had a black Ipa before but think I'll try a Kernel one I saw.

Worth a look it is a very very nice style.

£3.20 is cheap here I don't know how the pub does it to be fair they have some stuff on for £2.50 I assume it is a front for a drugs empire but if it means cheap beer then so be it.

http://www.bottleapostle.com/shop/beer-and-cider?keys=&type=16&origin=All&abv%5Bmin%5D=&abv%5Bmax%5D=&price%5Bmin%5D=&price%5Bmax%5D=

This is I guess my "local" beer shop now. I went to the closer one today but the prices are £1 more than these each. Madness.

Seeing as it's just us in here, if you see any on this list you'd recommend, I may pick them up tomorrow. Gonna treat myself as it's my last Friday in London for a while :(

I'm tempted to try this http://www.bottleapostle.com/product/n7 as N7 is right next to me. Rep the post code.

I'm certainly going to try this http://www.bottleapostle.com/product/bloody-ell-blood-orange-ipa, especially after the can discussion. Love a bit of blood orange.

Gamma Ray
8-Ball Rye IPA
Undercurrent Oatmeal Pale
Neck Oil
Love of Work (you have to have this one it is brilliant, it is a pale with Earl Grey in there)
Calypso (It is a sour so very different, again a must have)

the Bloody 'Ell is apparently dissapointing, I've not had it but those I know who have have said it wasn't as good as they expected.

Oh dear. I'll have to decide when I'm there.

I've been eyeing up the oatmeal pale so I'll give that a bash. Gamma Ray is a good shout. Not tried 8 ball Rye actually or neck oil.

I had the Oatman on keg the other day at a pub near work, it is brilliant.

Neck Oil is very good, it ins't their best beer but it is a very good "all dayer". Best Beavertown beer I have had was Lord Smog Almighty, it was very nice, it is the big brother of their smog rocket smoked beer, not overly common as they don't do it often and was price at £16 a bottle I think, but very good. I quite like a smoked beer it is an interesting flavour that I enjoy. The Germans do some great smoked stuff.

As you are a beery type you may like an app called Untappd. Its really good for finding what is around you beer wise and bar wise. It is a bit spotty in smaller places but in cities it I pretty good.

NICE!! I don't have a local shop which is kind of good but also a shame, I tend to have to orders off the web, if I had local shop I would end up spending a fortune in there!

Drank so much Thai beer on holiday. Leo was my favourite, so strawberry floating sweet for a lager, but not available everywhere so I'd often go for a Chang. 80 baht a bottle with table service :D

I always find deliveries quite steep when I check beer shop sites which is a big shame. The plus of living in quite a lively area I suppose.

I might go to Maltby St market today which has The Kernel and BBNo breweries there. I rarely see BBNo so would be nice to try some. Especially fresh.

Partizan porter 7 grain. 5.5%
Image

Sadly the kernel brewery was rammed today so ended up going into a random pub. They did however sell local beers. Tried this porter as I felt like a dark beer.

Lovely smell of coffee, licorice with a mostly chocolate taste. Good mouth feel. Not as thick as other porters I've had which I found quite pleasant actually. Went down better than expected.

Wouldn't have more than one but it was good.

3/5

A tasty chocolaty porter that went down nicely after a big lunch of salt beef reuben then a donut.

Thronbridge Sequoia 4.5%

Image

Price: £4.30 a pint
Style: American Amber / Red Ale
Location: The Crown Inn, Hastings

This is a great beer, I really love a red ale you get a great fruity flavour, there should be a hint of maltiness in there but nothing too big.

This one is beautiful, there is a really nice orange and peach flavour coming through and the flavour isn't too punchy so it is refreshing and wonderful. This was my first beer of the day and it went down brilliantly well, sat out in the warm (and it was very warm) it felt like a perfect match, it is the sort of beer that would match great with a country pub beer garden having some sort of fish dish.

For the maltiness there isn't an overwhelming amount which is good as I prefer more hop flavours in a red ale, but there are nice caramel flavours and a bit of biscuit and roasted hazelnut.

At 4.5% it is a good beer for having a few of, personally I would rather have a range of beers in an evening and as such hate the term "session beer" as I just don't get why you would want to spend an evening drinking the same beer over and over, sure this is a great beer and you may want two but to have more than that is no real better than the sort of people that will drink pint after pint of piss water lager, beer is to be enjoyed and personally I think you should have a few different beers in the evenings you have beer to try different flavours, styles and brewing techniques, but if you want to drink the same thing all night you could.

All in all a great beer and one I will have again if I see it.

Good Points
Fruity flavours
Refreshing
Lower % for evenings of pubbing
Great for the Summer

Bad Points
Can't really think of any, it isn't epic, but it is very good.

Rating = 3.5
Great beer, good for summer, just wish I was in a beer garden.

Tried Guinness Golden Ale. It's so strawberry floating boring. Just a bog standard pale ale really. Nothing special about it.

Yeah I had that a few weeks back, not great. I quite like the West Indies Porter, not the greatest ever but not bad. Foreign Extra is still my favourite Guinness.

SIERRA NEVADA: TORPEDO EXTRA IPA – 7.2%

Price: £2.30 a bottle
Style: American IPA
Location: My Sofa

Sierra Nevada are fantastic, there aren’t loads of there beers over on these shores but the ones I have had a brilliant. This is the one of the stronger ones and has a massive punch the face hop flavour and bitterness to so with the 7.2% alcohol, many will say the % is over the top but when you are getting into this level of flavour you really need the extra alcohol to prevent the beer feeling thin and unsatisfying.

The first thing you notice with this is the big punch in the face of bitter, some will probably find this overwhelming but I really enjoy a big face punch of bitter hop. Once that levels of you are left with a slight apple tang and some lemon.

There is a bit of caramel and toffee flavours as well as some pine notes in there but mostly it is citrus punch from the hops. It is a beer that makes you feel good. You certainly wouldn’t want too many but as I have said before I am not one for having multiple of the same beer in an evening.

If you are new to American IPA’s this isn’t going to be for you, I would suggest building up to this with a bottle of Sierra Nevada Pale Ale, it is a similar vein but has a much lighter bitterness making it much less in your face.

If you have had the Pale, give this a try. Once your tongue has gotten used to the big flavour it really settles into a great beer, you want to have it cold so that as it warms you get a nice change to the taste. You get more pine and orange coming through rather than overwhelming bitterness.

This is a cracking beer, it is very easy tom come by as well, it is available in Tesco (or at least my local one) and my local M&S as well as being on various online beer stores. Give it a try if you like American IPAs but haven’t ventured past BrewDog Punk IPA and similar give this a try the extra punch is really good and opens up a whole new range of beers in a similar bitter vein like BrewDog Jackhammer and Mikkeller 1000 IBU.

If you are unsure of a beers bitterness take a look on RateBeer or sometimes the bottle for the IBU rating, the higher the number the more bitter it is.

Good Points

Massive bitter flavour
Different to “everyday” available beers
Strong alcohol volume to balance the bitter
Huge flavours of orange and citrus

Bad Points

Overwhelming for some
If anything a little too available removing the “specialness” of the beer
You could only have one or two, if you have more you loose the surprise and wonder of the beer

Rating: 3.5 of 5

Very good beer, big bitter hit, great flavour.
