Good choice in bar :D

I think at some point in the future we should arrange a GR Beer day or something, I did one with some mates a few months back, we started at London Bridge and walking worked our way to Camden via many many pubs, was brilliant fun.

Oh yeah :D

Sorry being thick. Sadly I won't be able to go due to changing jobs so need to keep money back. Will keep an eye out for next year though that looks interesting.

I don't like Camra any more. I used to be a member but they are just backwards now that I think it wont be long until they are doing more bad than good. So many beers in the "craft" category are disallowed as "real" by them just because they come on a keg. Sure they started because Keg beer came in and was killing off traditional ale but times have changed.

Tribue winning beer of the year was just another hammer in that coffin, I mean come on. Yeah it is a pleasant beer but it is crap when compared to a Hastings Blonde, Burning Sky Aurora or Summer Wine Brewing Oregan, all of which come in both Keg and Cask form. It is based on what is at the festival but even still, if that was best beer there then it must have been bloody boring!

I want to got to the London Craft Beer Festival which is held at the same time, it was started because Craft beer is generally banned from GBBF.

Never gonna please everybody camra but I do agree with not moving with the times as for tribute (like doom bar) its easy to drink with most peoples taste. I would also say that you come out London and similar places and you don't see craft beers in bars/pubs that much.

But I did have a hackey hopstar last night on the way to Wimbledon dog races average pale ale.

I don't know about that. I'm in Hastings and we have quite a few pubs that will do the more "craft" ales that traditional bitter and porter.

It doesn't need to be Keg etc. to be craft, there are loads of beers that are more odd and craft in nature that normal ales stuff like Black IPA's, Milk Stouts and such that I have never seen at a Camra beer festival but are made by normal brewers and served from a Cask.

I think the reason some "normal" pubs dont have that sort of thing is they watch Camra say as if they are the guiding light of this sort of thing and most Camra members I have met are the dullest drinkers in the world, they have the same Best Bitter (round my way Harveys Best) every time and always because its "real ale" and thats what they have always drunk.

They have no interest in making beer better, more interesting and something enjoyable they just want lager gone and it doesn't matter what is put in its place as long as it is from a cask.

But back to the original thing, there is more of it in London but you get loads of more craft styles poping up all over the place, or at least we do around Sussex. Hell I went into a village pub (the sort of village with 5 houses a pub and a tree) and they have bottles in from New Zealand. It is becoming more normal especially now Wetherspoons and so stock it that more interesting beers are making it into normal pubs, especially bottles as they are easy to store, cheaper to buy and you can get a few to test which you can't do so well with a keg or cask.

Hopefully, I think they will as there is money to be made there, and some of the pubs round this way that were failing are now a massive success because they have a changing range of beers and the beers they have are interesting.

Hastings Beer Co.: Four Cees - 5.7%

Image

Price: £3.60

Style: American Pale Ale

Location: The Crown Inn, Hastings

Well this is a good one!

It is one of the first four beers from the re-branded Hastings Beer Co. (Formerly Hastings Brewery). I have been a bit worried about them recently because over the years I have seen their beers develop and become brilliant, their Porter and Blonde were epic, but a few months ago I saw on twitter they were ending, this was very sad news and I love Blonde especially it was a fresh exciting pale with elderflower.

Anyway back to this beer. First off the smell, it is exciting and lively, it smells like it is going to taste fantastic and like you are going to enjoy every last drop.

Flavour wise it is massive, the huge hoppy bitterness punches you first and you are left with a massive smile and just a feeling WOW!

Next the fruit starts coming in, lots of citrus, grapefruit and a bit of peach in there for good measure.

There is a light caramel from the malts but it is mainly about the fruit and hops and bitter.

It is the exactly the beer it should be, the percentage is perfect to balance the huge flavour and it has a great fell to it as you drink it, it was served from a Keg which with the flavours in there is exactly right, the extra CO2 and chill on the beer brings the taste and feel out perfectly and is it warms a little you get a nice development. The only thing I would change is the glass, I would have much preferred the beer to have come in a stemmed chalice glass rather than a normal pint glass, but that's just me.

You can tell they have worked long and hard on making this, it puts to bed all the worries that this rebrand might be a bad idea. I haven't tried the other 3 launch beers but I need to, if they are even close to being this good then Hastings Beer Co. is going to be a big thing.

Bring on the beer!!

Good Points
Refreshing
Bright taste
Big flavour

Bad Points
Too strong for some
Not the glass I would like to have it in
Slightly pricey for a beer that as come from the same town as you are buying it

Rating: 4 of 5
Brilliant way to start after a re-brand, great feel, flavour and leaves you feeling happy and good about the world.

Had a half pint of Fullers Frontier (their new "craft" lager)

Decent taste, though pricey which was£2.58 (would be £5.15 for a pint I assume)

Had it at The Railway, West Hampstead
