Still not a fan of Del Bosque. Spain are successful now because of the strength of their squad, not because of Del Bosque's coaching ability. I think he limits them by playing Biscuits and Alonso together; drop Biscuits, and I think Spain would win even more comfortably. Aragonés should be given more credit for kickstarting this whole Spanish footballing revolution.

What about the strikerless formation he went for throughout the tournament that turned out to be massively successful?

I was so happy when Torres scored, and then when Mata scored after two minutes in his first game of the tournament.

Torres

The Spanish anthem doesn't have lyrics does it?

It does not. I think the crowd kinda of...hum along to it. You hear noise from them in tune with the anthem, but there are no lyrics.

The part that you bolded actually addresses your point. The strikerless formation only worked because it was Spain. I don't think many other teams would have that kind of success without playing a striker.

And, yes DM, I'm for Real. They're a pretty cool team eh wins the Spanish League and doesn't afraid of anything.

Alonso creatively contributes in the match. Busquets has his strengths too, no doubt, but he's also a dick so Alonso wins.

France did a pretty good job playing without an out and out striker at WC98.

No it doesn't. He chose to play the formation without any strikers.

And this strikerless formation had nothing to do with Del Bosque? What about the fact the guy had the balls to play a team without a recognised striker? Nothing to do with him? Doesn't deserve merit as a coach? All down to Aragones?

Del Bosque is an amazing coach. To denigrate his achievement is ludicrous.

I'm not saying the strikerless formation had nothing to do with him.

I know he purposely set up the strikerless formation, but they could have made it even easier for themselves if they played with a striker by sacrificing a defensive midfielder. You say he's got balls? I say the exact opposite, he's got no balls. Overly cautious.

Not get outplayed by Portugal for long periods, not have dodgy spells against Croatia and Italy during the group stages and not be so strawberry floating boring in certain games. Spain, in my opinion have the best squad of all time, lightyears ahead of any other team playing in the Euros. Yet, they were a whisker away from getting knocked out on penalties.

And yet they weren't the favourites going into the competition. Hindsight is a funny thing.

Accusations of Boring are valid for some of those games. Posession play to contain the threat of other teams. However - when it really mattered they stepped up and delivered a peerless performance in the final. Peerless. Fluid attacking play based around superlative :P movement and use of the ball.

Maybe they should take the shackles off more but they are a class side. No other european team have won the three major trophies in a row. Ever.

Before he took over Del Bosque was a great coach. For what he'd already done. Now he should be feted as one of the greatest ever. To claim he's just lucky is a gross insult.

I couldn't see anyone winning but Spain, from the start. I thought if any team would come close it would be Germany.
