Euro 2020: Italy win it; morons, encouraged by UK govt., racially abuse England's greatest team since '66.

strawberry float off mate, and how dare you equate violent scenes with an inherently working class fanbase. I’m long past sick of this narrative.

"The world can't work like that" is so strawberry floating telling. :simper:

“We shouldn’t be criticising the elite class and anyone who dares to should have their privileges and employment stripped away from them.”

That sounds like a brutal dictatorship, not a liberal democracy.

I didn't watch Johnson's press conference yesterday but I'm told that he said he was happy no-one booed the England players when they kneeled before the match. Can anyone who watched it confirm? Even for that hypocritical bastard I was shocked.

There's plenty of ways of showing "PASHUN" at a football game. Violence and hurling racial abuse is not that.

Neither is the England Band. As much as the Holmesdale Fanatics tread the line of cringey at the best of times; there's little doubt they've made a positive influence to the atmosphere and inspired a few other clubs to make their own.

Clearly a lot of people continue to believe things were better when you went to the football for a punch up. Whilst it still sometimes happens in the league matches there's a special kind of idiot at England games.

At least they’re on camera to hopefully be arrested.

The thing that's weird about this is that the plebs doing the attacking don't seem to know each other, as in, as I've said before we have scumbags too but they generally are young and it's a gang of them, but here it's just random violence by older men seemingly on a whim....

The people breaking through are without tickets so the older men are engaging in what they think is some kind of vigilante justice I guess. Not a justification whatsoever of course but that's what's going on.

We live in a country where accusing someone of racism (regardless of how valid it is) is considered far worse than actually being racist.

I do think there's a silver lining with this particular spate of racist abuse - it's kind of gone viral. The weekly incidents of abuse that you get against PL footballers during the season kind of goes under the radar with the general non-football population, but now that England players have been attacked at the height of the coverage of the whole thing it's really shined a light on the problem and has brought national condemnation. Hopefully it'll be a trigger for bigger changes.

I hope you're right but I don't think this will change the needle at all when it comes to the UK media and government.

FWIW, I'd like to completely reverse my thoughts on the knee being a gesture which has been diluted over the last few months. I was wrong and the last few days have proven more than ever that this needs to be at the forefront of peoples minds.

When black players stop being abused because of the colour of their skin, perhaps then we can "take politics out of football".

I think you're right about "dilution" and I was privately leaning the same way until very recently. I think what we often forget is that we are extremely online and switched on compared to older people. For many of them the gesture hadn't sunk in, or even the reality of what it is they are protesting against.

We should migrate GRcade to Flarum. :toot:

Social media sites should be forced to only allow one account per user and on the point of registration, the account should be verified by acceptable forms of ID. Anyone engaging in racism gets a lifetime ban from the site.

It's ridiculous social media sites are allowed to take so little responsibility on this issue.

I'd be ok with this but of course, the conspiracy nuts/grifters would go into overdrive.

I mean, those nutters choosing to stay off social media because of it would be an added bonus ;)

As we saw with the Savills guy, a lot of racists use their real names.

It would also mean that billions of people would be unable to access a huge amount of the internet. Not everyone in the world has ID and not everyone would be safe if their governments knew what they were posting online.

True, I'm constantly moving towards the extreme view that all 'alternative' media sites should be banned outright, this would never happen but I've seen in real time what miss information can do to someone, or indeed an entire family.

Lando Norris apparently got mugged at the Euros. They took a £40K watch.

Only allowing one account per user is a very bad idea

It's for your own good.
