Eurogamer re-reviewing games?

Anything to do with games at all.

Not sure if this will be come a standard feature, but given the state of some games at launch and how many flourished into something much better over time I think this is a sound idea. DriveClub, NMS and The Division spring instantly to mind.

Thoughts?

This is another reason a review score is a pointless exercise these days, so many games evolve over time and poor games can be come great games if the developers provide the right kind of support and listen to the communities. Also, you have to give Ubisoft some credit for continuing to support its games post launch, they seem to have done it with all their major releases recently, fixing any issues people had with the game and adding more content over time.

Gran Turismo Sport immediately springs to mind as something that needs reviewing again. All the complaints at launch about the game not having enough content or being too expensive are going to be completely invalid a year later.

Games shouldn't be launching in these states though. The internet has allowed developers and publishers to launch more half finished games with the mindset 'Oh, we'll make it better in 6 months' and they should be slammed for it. At the same time you can look at a lot of games pre internet that would have benefited from updates.

Looking at my game collection, the vast majority are now single player games, online gaming has fast become a joke.

I like the idea of re-reviewing games, if only to give those who don’t buy games at launch a more accurate state of affairs.

As for Seige - I’d love to try it as I’ve always been a big Rainbow Six fan, but I’m forever alone and don’t want to have to play with annoying strangers that take it too seriously.

Agreed. It really doesn't help when gamers themselves passionately defend these games just because they've had five minutes fun.

Unfortunately the industry has convinced gamers that releasing unfinished games, with the belief that they'll be sorted several months down the line, is perfectly acceptable. I've a few friends who have not only been brainwashed into accepting the practice, but who act like I'm the loon for not buying broken, incomplete games at launch. It's madness.

I don't even bother talking games & gaming with them any more. Gives me a strawberry floating headache.

Anyway, the practice has seemingly become the norm and with publications reluctant to hold off on reviewing games after launch re-reviewing games at a later date is the only answer I guess.

I think it's particularly true of single player games; I would rather wait a few months and not only pay less but get a better experience as well. As I'm unlikely to then go back and play it again I will have got the shitter version at launch (and paid potentially up to 50-60% more for it) than somebody who held off & purchased later.

And of course if you really want to hold off for a number of years you can end up with the definitive version (Xbox One X patches for example). The console has cost you an arm and a leg but the games by that point are peanuts.

That probably depends on which games you're playing, CoD: WWII is actually the best online multiplayer i've played in years.

If you're on PC it gets played almost nightly by people on here and some of our IRL friends.

I don't like half made things getting released but it's the world we live in, later reviews like this could be helpful to let people know if it's now worth getting a previously ignored game because it's now properly ready.

Fortnite (More like Fortshite) can go suck a fart from a sweaty arse that hasn't seen toilet paper or a wash in a week. Someone's partner from work always bangs on about it, so just got home and downloaded it on PS4. Hit with a 12 minute queue. Timer goes down and I create an account only to then be hit with a 24 minute queue.

Think I'll uninstall that gooseberry fool.

Probably the only game were it wouldn't be Jawas fault for not getting beyond the menu :slol:

;)

They should quite sensibly add NMS - Next to the mix. If Xbox owners experience this version first, without memories and prejudices from the launch version, then they may turn out to be its biggest fans.

That's nothing, I passed the load screen and hit a 44 minute queue. I actually didn't believe it, so restarted and yep. It was a 40 minute queue. Unbelievable.

I’m no one to defend Fortnite but big cues usually mean its not a problem with its servers. Usually it’s instant.

Big queues is exactly problems with their servers as that's the idea of the queue system. Maybe it's longer on PS4 because there's no PUBG unlike on Xbone..

I remember PC zone use to re review games after patches came out. It sounds like a nightmare to me. Keeping up with all the new games is a nightmare adding in going back to life the games that are being updated seems almost impossible.

Amusement under late capitalism is the prolongation of work.
