For some reason they just showed a clip from Eurovision on Something for the Weekend, on BBC2, and stated the clip was 'courtesy of the BBC' below. How... pointless.

Anyway, not a bad winner. Shame she sounds pretty darn yankish.

I guess I shouldn't be surprised as a history of doing it but still, how did Germany beat France in this?

Also why is Israel part of Eurovision. :?

Can you really see Israel entering a singing competition with Palestine, Lebanon, Egypt, Syria etc.

I just noticed why is there no Italy? I remember my dad saying something about them pulling out because no one ever voted for them a few years ago but since they don't air it here I thought it was just a joke.

It's within the European Broadcasting Area and is a member of the European Broadcasting Union. For all intents and purposes, it's a European country in the Middle East. Several other Middle Eastern (Lebanon) and North African (Tunisia, Morocco) countries are eligible to participate, but don't precisely because Israel does. Morocco have entered only once, in 1980. A year that Israel didn't enter.

In 1978, during the performance of the Israeli entry, the Jordanian broadcaster JRTV suspended the broadcast, and instead showed pictures of flowers. When it became apparent during the later stages of the voting sequence that Israel was going to win the contest, JRTV abruptly ended the transmission.[1] Afterwards, the Jordanian news media refused to acknowledge the fact that Israel had won, and announced that the winner was Belgium (which had actually come in 2nd).[2] By coincidence, Israel didn't broadcast the victory either, as the IBA did not buy enough broadcasting time. The victory was broadcasted the next day.

Curiously Eurovision has never been that massive in Italy. Unlike the rest of the big countries, no Italian song from Eurovision has ever done well in the charts. They have been in and out of the contest for years. They have been offered a definite berth in the finals if they ever rejoin, but I dont think the demand is high enough.

I can't believe I sat though all the songs. The german entry was like a bad cross between the cranberries, katie turnstall and lily Allan. Turkeys entry was rubbish as well. For my money Azerbaijan or Serbia should have won.
