I'm not though
You said this...
Rik wrote:However like I have already said the limiting factor in both the 360/PS3 that most devs complain about is the lack of Ram, that is why devs were recently so pleased when the PS3 OS allowed another paltry 70mb available.
Rik wrote:I said that devs were pleased about the extra Ram, the news articles give the timeframes not me. However that isn't the point anyway
...and the bold bit implies it was your point.
Rik wrote:the point was the consoles are not limited by their CPU but by other factors mainly the available amount of Ram, this is true for both PS3 and 360. I haven't heard any devs bemoaning hitting the CPU limit on the 360 but plenty talking about DVD space and the amount of Ram.
Didn't EPIC say they neared the limits of the hardware with Gears of War 2...some along the lines of 'the upper range' or summat? Also didn't the Turn10 guys say the same?
Rik wrote:So anyone who thinks games on PS3 are going to magically take huge leaps because of Cell isn't taking into account the rest of the hardware constraints. Making a side issue out of when some extra ram became available to devs is just silly, the point that they need to do this as that is where the performance bottleneck lies is unchanged.
SCE know they strawberry floated up with the amount of RAM the OS needed so they have been working to reduce that ever since. Major bottlenecks comes from inefficient/bad code. Like online bad or inefficient code will result in disconnects and bad lag. Good efficient code results in a smooth gameplay experience.
