So false allegations from embittered ex-employee, or did Sony really brush it under the carpet and attempt to buy his silence?

This is going to get interesting methinks.

Hard to comment with anything meaningful because all we have is an accusation and an outright denial. We don't know the work culture at Naughty Dog (could be great, could be another Rockstar division), or how far up the food chain this went. We have no details of what the "sexual harassment" claim even entails (that I am aware).

An accusation such as this should always be made in both writing (preferably an email) and in-person though.

Quite unusual for PlayStation to come out with such a statement so quickly. A report or accusation could easily not exist for those higher up if one was never passed on beyond a certain point.

Other people may have to come forward to corroborate the culture of that building (or wider) if no proof exists.

That's one hell of a dismissive statement from Naughty Dog.

You mean actual work culture? Like with most big devs, crunch central.

I guess the onus is now on David Ballard to back up his accusations in at least some capacity, or for a number of people to start speaking out.

Without either of those two things you've entered he said/they said territory and it's not worth a toss.

This could be entirely legit but maybe at the time he went about reporting this too naively. If he had a mental breakdown at work too, and was therefore vulnerable, then that could be very possible. You know, something happens and your immediate reaction is to go to your boss or HR, not realising they may not have your best interests at heart either.

But look, now even I'm talking myself into hypothetical situations on something where the details are as flimsy as a Fawlty Towers set.

It's an appalling statement, which essentially accuses the guy of lying. A terrible PR decision in this current context.

What isn't exactly clear to me in that Eurogamer article is who is actually issuing this statement. Naughty Dog, PlayStation, SIE, Sony...

In a huge corporation made up of a multitude of divisions, it would be nice to how far up the chain this has gone or how much of an investigation has taken place.

Well not necessarily. If Naughty Dog have decent records of performance reviews and poor conduct, they could be reasonably confident they could demonstrate it is a case of an ex employee holding a grudge.

It will be interesting to see what comes of it, I wouldn't dismiss it out of hand but this needs some kind of verification.

If you look at the responses on twitter at the very least it's a terribly thought out PR move. It's gone down very, very badly.

As I said on there, all they needed to do was put out a statement saying "We're looking into it" "We've reached out to the individual" and "We take these things very seriously." The validity of the allegation has no bearing on making a statement like that, and you come across as responsive, concerned and reasonable. "We looked and there isn't a paper trail of any abuse" is a terribly callous thing to say, and if anything the speed of the response makes them look super defensive.

*Thin end of the wedge.

Hopefully more people, from all walks of life, in all kinds of industries, will take courage from others coming forward and do so themselves.
