I think this is brilliant. My best finish so far is 5th. Haven't made it through a Grand Prix yet though best I've managed is into the 3rd of 5 races. It's such a great challenge.

I'm going to give this a go at some point this weekend. Looking forward to being the best at it and having to stop playing so someone else has a chance at winning.

When I saw F-Zero appear in the Direct I'm pretty sure I took a gasp that was audible. A few moments later I realised that this was a "99" game and my excitement level crashed to the floor. It was a real high/low sequence.

It's cool that some of you folk are really enjoying it, though! Maybe I need to open my mind to what it is rather than what it isn't.

I'd seriously suggest playing it and seeing what you think. I wasn't the happiest with the news but it's really well made and it's really fun.

This.

It's not quite on the level of Metroid Prime: Federation Force as a poorly judged idea, but it's not really the F-Zero we were hoping for either.

That said, what they have given us is really, really good. Again, my concern is that it doesn't do the numbers Nintendo want, the game gets delisted and the servers turned off in the same way Mario 35 did. Pacman 99 is scheduled to be shut down on the 8th of October as well.

So get on it Jawa. :capnscotty:

Mario 35 was always meant as a temporary anniversary thing (Nintendo can be funny about those, see 3D All Stars), it wasn't delisted and turned off because of numbers. Pacman 99 was, but that decision was made by Bandai Namco who were running it. And no one was playing it, to be fair.

Tetris 99 is still going strong and had a physical release.

Yes, you need Nintendo Switch Online to play an online game. Shocking, I know.

I can play Rocket League on my Switch online without needing to pay for NSO, the subscription service isn't always a prerequisite.

It tends to be free to play games with microtransactions and season passes that you don't need NSO for. Nintendo's own stuff you always do with the exception of Pokemon Unite (I believe).

I just don't like games that can be "taken away" and something so dependent on online like this is that kind of game.

I do hope they at least give it a physical release as well. Would look nice on my shelf.

Totally agree about things being taken away, but I think this has a decent chance of a physical release especially if a) it's popular and b) they keep adding content.

I'd really encourage everyone to give it a go. You never know it might prompt Nintendo to give the franchise a proper new release. That and it's brilliant fun by itself. I love Tetris 99 but would probably say this is better. It's the first time I've seen the rotating online modes thing implemented and thought it works well rather than being needlessly restrictive.

It would be nice if it had more content to unlock, like a comic strip but what's here will last a long time.

If they add any of the other drivers from X or GX you can be certain a new game is coming.

Thanks, guys, and I'm glad that you're enjoying it! I don't have Nintendo Online at the mo' but, when I do, I'll probs give it a go. I've not tried any of the games in the "99" series!

Anyone able to give me some super secret top tips to be good at this. Best I've managed is 3rd (Death Wind using Fire Stingray), and that took me all night.

Managed to get a couple of races in with Jazzem earlier on tonight. So it's possible to play with friends if you are really in sync with hitting the join button and have a little bit of luck.
It would be well worth them adding in some kind of group mode where you can stick together.

Had some fun with it last night before getting stuck into The Crew Motorfest, and it is lovely. Retro F-Zero with a lot of chaos as everyone is bundled together. Can't say for certain which of the vehicles I like using best, but I've certainly managed to stay in the upper half with almost all the races I took part in.

Pretty sure we were in the same game last night, I managed to finish 2nd for the first time on that one.
